12.1 In addition to the normal lighting arrangements, the contractor shall<br />

provide, wherever a sewer work is in progress, battery operated<br />

blinking lights (6 volts) in the beginning and end of a trench with a<br />

view to provide suitable indication to the vehicular traffic. The<br />

contractor shall also provide and display special boards painted with<br />

fluorescent paints indicating the progress of the work along a<br />

<strong>particular</strong> <strong>road</strong>.<br />

13.0 MAINTENANCE OF WATER PIPES, GAS PIPES AND DRAINS, ETC.<br />

MET IN EXCAVATION<br />

The contractor shall, at the rates entered in the Bill of Quantities and<br />

Rates, excavate all such <strong>works</strong>, as the Engineer may requires in order<br />

to locate the position of water pipes, drains, sewers or any other<br />

work and all water pipes, gas pipes, drains, sewers or other work,<br />

which may be met up, in or about any excavation whatever, shall if<br />

the Engineer deem it practicable be properly maintained by the<br />

contractors, and by means of shoring, strutting, planking over,<br />

padding or otherwise as the Engineer may direct, shall be protected<br />

by the contractors from damage during the progress of the work or if<br />

damaged together with all matters and things resulting from the<br />

same, shall be made good and effectually remedied either by the<br />

contractors or by other agency, as the Engineer may decide and<br />

wholly in either case at the expense of the contractors. In the event<br />

of the failure on the part of the contractors to carry out to the<br />

satisfaction of the Engineer, any of the above protective provisions or<br />

to execute to his satisfaction of the Engineer, any of the above<br />

protective provisions or to execute to his satisfaction such remedial<br />

work, as he may decide that they shall do, the Engineer may, with or<br />

without notice to the contractors, adopt such measures as he may
