Extra width of trenches over and above the stipulated width shall be<br />

permitted by engineer in writing where either the site conditions<br />

demand it or where wide trenches are necessary for carrying out<br />

special <strong>works</strong> such as making cross connections, fixing<br />

appurtenances, providing anchor blocks etc. Similarly, if for any<br />

reason the engineer orders the depth of trenches to be increase such<br />

as for crossing utilities, the contractor shall do so and shall be paid<br />

for according to the rates quotes.<br />

1.1 For the purpose of measurements, steel tapes and leveling<br />

instruments shall be used to determine the dimensions of excavation<br />

work. The width will be measured at the bottom of the pipe. The<br />

thickness of murum bedding if provided, will be considered<br />

separately. Boulders measuring above 1/20 cubic metre in volume,<br />

met within the excavation will be jointly measured on spot<br />

immediately they are met with and before they are removed. As<br />

soon as they are removed from excavation and measured they must<br />

be broken or disposed off as directed by the Engineer.
