spread on the <strong>road</strong> surface and provide hindrance to traffic. If this is<br />

not feasible and <strong>road</strong> surface is to be crossed, the contactor shall<br />

restrict the flow to a suitable size pipe under and across the <strong>road</strong>.<br />

The pipe shall be immediately removed on completion of the <strong>works</strong>.<br />

No extra payment will be made for making any such arrangements.<br />

1.7 Supporting of public utilities :<br />

Utilities such as water pipes, drains, sewer, cable etc. encountered<br />

along the alignment shall be temporarily supported throughout the<br />

work by the contractor at their own cost to the satisfaction of the<br />

engineer. In this connection, the contractor may have to contract the<br />

concerned department and in consultation with them take the<br />

necessary precautions. On completion of the pipe laying operations<br />

and before refilling the trench, some of the utilities may have to be<br />

supported permanently by providing 1:2:4 cement concrete as<br />

directed. The concrete supports shall be paid for separately under<br />

the respective item. If any damage is done to the utilities in the<br />

progress of work, the charges for making good the same will be<br />

recovered from the contractor.<br />

1.8 Fencing, watching, lighting :<br />

The contractor shall make proper provisions for protecting the work<br />

by fencing, watch and ward, lighting at night or in any other manner<br />

as may be directed by the Engineer. The fencing shall be of timber<br />

posts securely fixed in the ground not more than 2.5 metres apart.<br />

The contractor shall be held responsible for payment for all claims<br />

for compensation as a result of accident or injury to any person or<br />

property due to improper fencing and inadequate lighting.
