2. Prevention of damage to the existing services like water supply<br />

lines, sewer lines, etc underneath the existing bridge.<br />

1.17 DRAINAGE DURING CONSTRUCTION:<br />

All embankment, subgrade, shoulder and pavement layers under<br />

construction shall be protected from any accumulation of water due to<br />

rain, springs, seepage or other causes and from erosion due to flow of<br />

water. All such layers under construction shall be provided with cross-<br />

fall to facilitate surface run off and, if necessary, the cross- fall shall be<br />

supplemented with temporary drains or pumping arrangements to<br />

prevent accumulation of water causing damage to the <strong>works</strong> and other<br />

properties.<br />

1.18 Prevention of damage to Embankments, sub-grade layers, pavement<br />

layers and shoulders in position.<br />

Excavation for new construction and placement of materials as their insitu<br />

processing and compaction for new construction shall be done in<br />

such a manner and with such precautions as not to cause any damages<br />

to embankments, sub-grade layers, shoulders and pavement layers in<br />

position including those preexisting and intended to form part of the<br />

improved <strong>road</strong>.<br />

1.19 DISPERSAL OF HAULING EQUIPMENT<br />

Hauling equipment bringing materials to the site of work shall be<br />

dispersed uniformly over the surface of the previously constructed layers<br />

in order to avoid rutting and uneven compaction. The materials from<br />

hauling equipment shall not be dumped in concentrated heaps but<br />

deposited as evenly distributed layers or windows consisted with the<br />

loose thickness to be achieved before compaction.
