Grass Valley News-April 26, 2013 - Camas School District

April 26, 2013

Our teachers are very committed to sending their students on to the best possible

classroom for each individual. During the last month of school, they meet in grade

level teams to build class lists for the next year. When they build lists they do

consider the match between each student and the teacher. Equally important is the

combination of students within a class. We solicit your involvement in this process by

including a questionnaire on pages three and four. If you have particular concerns

for your child’s placement, this is the place to let us know. We are particularly

interested in knowing if there are some children with whom your child works

especially well, and conversely, if there are children from whom your child needs to

be separated. We will not accept requests for specific teachers! I caution you not to

think that a conversation with your child’s teacher is a substitute for this

questionnaire. Thank you. ~Patricia Erdmann

As you are probably aware, students in grades three through five participate in

Washington assessments each spring. These are important measures for us to

gauge our effectiveness in helping your children learn. You can help by making

sure your child is well rested and well fed for these assessments, most of which

students will complete within two hours (although the tests are untimed and

students are welcome to take longer). It is very important that students be here

on testing days! There are some makeup opportunities, but students benefit

more from sharing the experience with classmates in their usual setting. Please

avoid scheduling appointments and trips on these days:

The Green Stripe

EARTH DAY FUN was had throughout the school. Students

went on nature walks, completed scavenger hunts, and created

Earth Day writing. Some weeded the school garden and made

Earth Day flags, read The Lorax and conducted classroom trash

audits. Zebras continue to strive to be Green and look for new

ways to better our Earth!

LAST CALL FOR BOTTLE CAPS We will gladly accept any

plastic threaded bottle caps until next Tuesday, April 30, which is

the end of the bottle cap competition sponsored by Sorelle Spa.

Any caps turned in after Tuesday will be added to next year’s

collection for Earth Day 2014. We are so pleased with the

participation of so many families, students and staff to make a

difference with such a commonly-used object that is usually

tossed in the trash. The total number of caps collected by Grass

Valley this year and the winners of the competition will be

announced soon by Sorelle.

We celebrate Julie Della Valle! She is shown at the

recent award ceremony as a recipient of the Making

Every Day Earth Day Award. This award is

sponsored by Clark County Environmental Services

to recognize friends, neighbors, businesses and

organizations who volunteer time and energy

toward protecting and improving our natural

environment. Mrs. Della Valle is the guiding force in

making us a Washington Green School and in

insuring that our students are leaders in caring for

our environment.
