• In this writing test, you will respond to the writing task on the following
pages.
• You will have time to plan your response and write a first draft with
edits.
• Only what you write on the lined pages in this booklet will be scored.
• Use only a No. 2 pencil to write your response.
Scoring:
Your writing will be scored on how well you:
• write your narrative about one personal experience;
• include a beginning, middle, and an end to your personal narrative;
• move through a logical sequence of events;
• use many details that describe the setting, characters, objects, and events
to help your reader see what happened to you; and
• use correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.

Read the following writing task. You must write a personal narrative about this topic.
Writing a Personal Narrative
You shared many things about yourself, your friends, and your family with your class and teacher
this year. You will be writing a personal narrative for me to give to your teacher so they can
examine how well you write and so they can learn about an interesting experience that has happened
to you.
Write a narrative about an interesting experience that has happened to you. It may include your
friends or family. It could be about the experience you had when lost a tooth, a time when you tried
to do something new such as rollerblading, or a time when you gave someone a special present (or
someone gave you a special present). You may also choose any other interesting event that has
happened to you.
Write the personal narrative. You will be scored on how well you:
• write your narrative about one personal experience;
• include a beginning, middle, and an end to your personal narrative;
• move through a logical sequence of events;
• use many details that describe the setting, characters, objects, and events to help your reader
