Walking Wonders Team
As a team that works with people who have
MS, the Walking Wonders team felt it was
important to show their support. The 11
team members from the Medical Specialty
Clinic included the MS Nurses, Social Worker,
Occupational Therapist, Dietician, Neurologist,
Unit Clerks, and an Anticoagulation Nurse.
They see daily in their careers how MS affects
everyone involved and how important the
support of the MS Society is. On a regular basis
the MS Clinic requests the assistance of the MS
Society to help meet the needs of families with
MS. Ashley Hunter, the clinic’s Social Worker
states “I often come across needs that are not
met by any other organization and I know that
I can refer my patients to the MS Society for
help.” From funding hands-free jar openers,
to providing a friendly visit, to helping clients
work through living accommodation options,
and much, much more, the MS Society is an
important organization in the lives of those
with MS. Central Alberta Chapter’s staff has
a tremendous working and collaborating
relationship with the staff at the MS Clinic.
We are truly honored the Walking Wonders
put together a team to walk
and raise money for this year’s
R Enerflex MS Walk, Red Deer.
PCN Solemates are an interdisciplinary
Healthcare team employed at Primary Care
Network in Red Deer. Together with their
Executive Director, they decided to support
the MS Society by registering and collecting
donations to participate in the Enerflex MS
Walk, Red Deer, for the 2nd year in a row.
Elizabeth Bloos, Team Captain, put it this
way: “Health is our top priority so we chose
to make a difference in the lives of those
with Multiple Sclerosis --including one of our
very own colleagues. We wanted to walk for
and with her and of course for all those who
struggle with this condition. The Primary
Care Network also values working with the
community and we saw a way to contribute
on both fronts.”
The PCN Solemates all supported each
other as a team in collecting donations
individually and together. This year, with
the anticipated discontinuation of Canada’s
1-cent coin, they even organized a Penny
Collection at their office in which all team
members participated, adding to their
donation total.
Elizabeth tells us, “Colleagues who work
together were also accompanied by their
family members on the day of the Walk
and we all agreed that it was both heartwarming
and humbling to be welcomed
and cheered on by people who live with
Multiple Sclerosis every day. We hope to
embrace and support this great charity, the
MS Society, and the work they do behind the
scenes in future years to come.” Thank you
