Forensics At Marysville

Using skill and determination
the VHHS Forensics students
made a fantastic breakthrough
at the Marysville meet
on February the 22nd. VHHS
forensics team placed 7th out
of the 21 schools that attended;
this was the highest placement
that Valley Heights has had in
Marysville in the past few

Daniel John Schwarz, 23,
formerly of Home, KS, died

resident of Manhattan, KS,
died Monday, February 27,
2012 at the Point Lookout
Nursing & Rehab Facility in
Hollister, MO.
A graveside funeral service
will be held at 2:00 p.m.,
Friday, March 2, at the Sunset
Cemetery, Manhattan, KS.
Audine was born December
5, 1922 at Axtell, KS, the
years. The Forensics coach
Lynette Steele-Coon states “the
Marysville meet is a good way
to get our feet on the ground
after TVL.” Valley Heights participated
in three main events:
IDA, Prose, and Poetry.
Vanessa Moctezuma Fr. and
Tommy Tryon Sr. worked
together for the first time and
achieved 6th place ranking in
IDA- an improvised skit with
dent in rural Nemaha County.
Visitation will be Wednesday
from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at
Kinsley Mortuary in
Marysville.
A rosary service will be held
at 7 p.m., Wednesday, at St.
Gregory’s Catholic Church in
Marysville.
Mass of Christian Burial will
be held at 10:30 a.m.,
Thursday, March 8, at St.
Gregory’s Catholic Church.
Burial will be in the church
cemetery.

1988, at Marysville, KS, son of
David and Geraldine (Haupt)

Arthur Henry Ralph
Lohmeyer, 92, died March 2,
2012, at Journey House
Hospice in Lincoln, NE.
A funeral service will be held
at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 10,
at Good Shepherd Lutheran
Church in Washington.
Arthur was born October 17,
1919, in Linn, KS, the son of
Albert Fredrick and Marie
Sophia (Laue) Lohmeyer.
Art was confirmed and graduated
from the Zion Lutheran
Church and School in Linn in
1933. After three semesters at
Linn High School the Great
Depression forced him to hire
out as a farm hand. He returned
to school after Pearl Harbor to
learn sheet metal repair, and
joined the Army Air Force as an
aircraft repairman. He spent the
war in India and China repairing
airplanes for the 374th
Bomber Squadron, 308th
Group.
On August 17, 1941, he married
Mildred Elizabeth Loges,
daughter of Henry and Anna
Loges of Hanover.
Art opened Lohmeyer
Blacksmith and Welding Shop
on Highway 36 in Washington
in 1948, where he worked until
his retirement. He took pride in

Mary "Elaine" Regnier, 92,
of Beattie, KS, died March 3,
2012 at Cambridge Place in
Marysville.
Visitation will be Monday,
March 5, from 10 a.m. until 9

Marysville. The family will
receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held
at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 6, at
the Beattie United Methodist
Church. Rev. Norma Jeane
Miller will officiate.
Janet Plegge will play the
organ while Jennifer Gee sings
“How Great Thou Art” and “In
the Garden.”
The pallbearers will be
Shawn A. Hiatt, Shawn M.
Hiatt, Tom Dawson, Jacob E.
Hiatt, Jason Rourke and Joel
Rourke.
Burial will be in the Beattie
Union Cemetery.
Elaine was born September
26, 1919, south of Beattie, to
daughter of Clifford and
Edythe (Young) McKee. After
growing up and attending
school at Summerfield, KS, she
moved to Manhattan, KS. She
worked as a Licensed Practical
Nurse at the Manhattan
Hospital and in private care.
Audine took great pride in
caring for her home both inside
and outside. She enjoyed yard
work, taking care of the garden

categories: setting, characters,
and situation. In each category
the group draws three and picks
the best draw for the group.
Alex Laughlin Jr., had a
piece entered into the prose
competition called All Summer
in a Day by Ray Bradbury,
earning him 2nd place.
Laughlin’s prose piece is about
a little girl with the name
ticeship as a Boilermaker for
Local #83 at D&Z Co. He was
to graduate in July to attain
Journeymen Boilermaker. He
just recently moved to
Havensville.
In 2007, he graduated from
Marysville High School. He
love to played baseball, later
softball, golf and enjoyed many
outdoor activities. In high
school he worked for Fisher
Rocks in Home, KS.
He was a member of St.
Gregory’s Catholic Church and
was a 1st Degree Knight’s Of
Columbus.
Survivors include his parents,
David and Gerry
Schwarz, Home; sisters, Ginny
being able to repair broken
equipment and often reinforcing
it to stronger than new condition.
He enjoyed people,
solving their problems and getting
them back to work.
Art had a large garden to
help feed his family thanks to
the Mildred’s canning skills.
He was a member of Good
Shepherd Lutheran Church,
enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting
volunteering at Kansas
Specialty Dog, and being a part
of the community of
Washington. He was also a
member of the American
Legion and Veterans of Foreign
Wars.
After they retired, Art and
Mildred enjoyed camping and
wintered in Yuma, AZ, where
they developed friendships
with the “Snowbirds” who
flocked there.
Art and Mildred moved to
John and Lula May DeVault
Hadorn. She attended Life
Grade School and graduated
from Marysville High School
in 1937.
She worked for Coe Seed
Co., of Topeka, later the Civil
Service, Fort Leavenworth
school system for 15 years,
taught school north of Beattie
and Life School.
Elaine was a member of
Eastern Star, Snipe Creek Club,
United Methodist Church and
Womens Club, Post Script
Club, and volunteered at the
library and Marshall County
Historical Society.
In 1946, she married Wesley
Hiatt. She later married Evert
Regnier.
and flowers, and helping others
with their spring cleaning. She
also enjoyed gathering with
friends and playing cards.
She was a member of Trinity
Presbyterian Church and the
Women’s Fellowship Group.
Survivors include her daughter,
Carol Zuercher, Branson,
MO; son, Kent Ekberg,
Manhattan; sister, Marge
Larkin, Marysville; and four
Kenneth L. Sells, Agent
Margot who lives on the planet
Venus. Margot knows that
today was the day that the sun
was going to shine for the first
time in seven years.
VHHS dominated the Poetry
event taking the top three highest
scores. Katie Kinzel Sr.
placed 3rd in poetry. Jr. Jessie
Zidek places 5th and Jr. Brooke
Claycamp placed 6th in the
poetry event. The next meet for

Bobbi (Allen) Scott, Home;
brothers, Jeff Gray, Nebraska
City, NE, and Dominic
Schwarz, Home; grandparents,
Elmer and Isla Schwarz, Home,
and Virginia Haupt, Syracuse,
NE; nephew, Bryan Scott,
nieces, Alexandra Scott, Rylee
Gill and Jordyn Gill.
He was preceded in death by
his grandfather, Donald Haupt;
uncle, Ed Brown; and cousins,
Paula Brown and Kelsey
Kempkes.
A memorial fund has been
established and will be designated
at a later date.

in death by his parents,

LaVern; sisters: Charlotte
(Melvin) Hornbostel, Alma
(Raymond) Smith and Adela
(Walter) Langrehr.

Judy (Jerry) Rourke,
Assaria, KS; two sons, Terry

Hadorn, Marysville; eight
grandchildren and ten greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, Evert;
and brother, Dale.
