NORTH EASTERN ELECTRIC POWER CORPORATION LTD.<br />
North Eastern Electric Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) was<br />
constituted in 1976 under the Indian Companies Act, 1956<br />
with the objective <strong>of</strong> developing the power potential <strong>of</strong><br />
the North Eastern Region <strong>of</strong> the country through planned<br />
development <strong>of</strong> power generation projects, which in turn<br />
would effectively promote the development <strong>of</strong> the North<br />
Eastern Region. Since then NEEPCO has grown into<br />
one <strong>of</strong> the pioneer Public Sector Undertaking under the<br />
<strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong>, Govt. <strong>of</strong> India, with an authorized share<br />
capital <strong>of</strong> Rs. 3,500 Crores and having an installed capacity<br />
<strong>of</strong> 1,130 MW (755 MW hydro & 375 MW thermal), which<br />
meets more than 66% <strong>of</strong> the energy requirements <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Khandong Dam<br />
N.E. Region. The main objectives <strong>of</strong> Corporation are to<br />
add to the power generating capacity in the North Eastern<br />
Region by ensuring optimum utilization <strong>of</strong> commissioned<br />
generation projects, to generate adequate internal<br />
resources ensuring justifiable return on investment, to<br />
continue sustained efforts to obtain the receivables from<br />
State Electricity Boards/Departments, to execute and<br />
commission power projects, both hydro and thermal,<br />
within prescribed time frames, and to undertake long term<br />
feasibility studies and preparation <strong>of</strong> detail project reports<br />
for optimum development <strong>of</strong> hydro power resources <strong>of</strong> the<br />
North Eastern Region.<br />
CAPACITY ADDITION PROGRAMME FOR THE 10TH PLAN:<br />
The proposed capacity addition during the 10th Plan has been fixed as 155 MW (130 MW approx. Thermal and 25 MW<br />
Hydro). Out <strong>of</strong> this, Kopili H.E. <strong>Power</strong> Station Stage-II with one unit <strong>of</strong> 25 MW has already been completed.<br />
