MINISTRY OF POWER<br />

* NTPC has applied for allocation <strong>of</strong> 16 nos. <strong>of</strong> coal<br />

blocks, out <strong>of</strong> which one Block, namely Pakri-<br />

Barwadih, was allotted to NTPC in October 2004,<br />

under Govt. dispensation mode. Four blocks<br />

namely Kerandari, Chatti Baridatu, Chhatrasal<br />

and Dulanga were made in Jan. 2006 under<br />

captive Mining route. Another block namely<br />

Talaepali as a prt <strong>of</strong> lara integrated coal-mine<br />

cum power project.<br />

* NTPC is rigorously pursuing with MOC for<br />

allotment <strong>of</strong> these coal blocks.<br />

* Recently, Government <strong>of</strong> India has taken an ‘inprinciple’<br />

decision to allocate the following coal<br />

blocks to NTPC / its Joint Venture with Coal India<br />

Limited :<br />

(1) Kerandari, North Karanpura - 228 MT;<br />

(2) Chatti Bariatu, North Karanpura - 243 MT;<br />

(3) Chattrasal, Singrauli -150 MT;<br />

(4) Dulanga, lb Valley - 260 MT;<br />

(5) Talaipalli - 965 MT;<br />

(6) Brahmini-1900MT.<br />

(7) Chichro Patsimal - - 356 MT.<br />

Joint Venture with GIL / its subsidiaries :<br />

* NTPC is pursuing with CIL for developing <strong>of</strong> coal<br />

mine blocks under JV route at Gajmara (Orissa),<br />

Simhadri Expansion, and/or Darlipali (Orissa).<br />

Selection <strong>of</strong> Joint Venture Partner for coal mining:<br />

* NTPC has appointed a Consultant for upfront<br />

selection <strong>of</strong> JV Partner(s) for developing <strong>of</strong> coal<br />

mining blocks to be allotted under captive mining<br />

route. Finalization <strong>of</strong> QR, Bid documents, etc. are<br />

in progress.<br />

Pakri-Barwadih - Brief Status <strong>of</strong> activities :<br />

* Request for Notification under Section 4(1) for<br />

land acquisition under Coal Bearing Act (CBA)<br />

has been forwarded to Govt. Press for publication,<br />

by <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> Coal (MOC).<br />

* Application for Site clearance submitted on<br />

23.11.05 to MOEF.<br />

* Pre monsoon data for Environmental Impact<br />

Assessment (EIA)/ Environment Management<br />

Plan (EMP) studies completed & post monsoon<br />

studies including hydro geological studies under<br />

progress.<br />

* Geological modeling completed. Conceptual<br />

surface master plan prepared and Final Mine<br />

Plan expected in January 2005.<br />

* Feasibility Report (Preliminary) for establishing<br />

<strong>of</strong> Rail Link from Pakri Barwadih has been<br />

prepared.<br />

* Block Boundary received from Coal Mine<br />

Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI). Matter<br />

has been taken up with ONGC for resolving <strong>of</strong><br />

the overlapping with Coal Bed Methane (CBM)<br />

Boundary issue.<br />

* Expression <strong>of</strong> Interest (EOI) for selection <strong>of</strong> Mine<br />

Developer-cum-Operator (MDO) was published<br />

on 14.10.2005.<br />

8.5 Joint Ventures<br />

A. Existing Joint Ventures<br />

UTILITY POWERTECH LTD. (UPL) (a Joint Venture<br />

Company <strong>of</strong> NTPC & Reliance Energy) which was<br />

formed to take up assignments <strong>of</strong> construction,<br />

erection and supervision in the power sector and<br />

other sectors in India and abroad is progressing<br />

satisfactorily-. The total income and pr<strong>of</strong>it for the year<br />

2004-05 have been Rs1,124 Million and Rs 57 Million<br />

(aftertax) respectively. Company has declared 150%<br />

(Rs.30 Million) dividend for the last financial year<br />

(2004-05).<br />

NTPC ALSTOM POWER SERVICES PVT. LIMITED<br />

(NASL): NTPC has formed a JV Company with<br />

ALSTOM POWER GENERATION AG, (formally ABB<br />

KRAFTWERKE AG), under the name <strong>of</strong> “NTPC<br />

ALSTOM POWER SERVICES PVT. LIMITED”, (NASL)<br />

for taking up Renovation & Modernization assignments<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong> Plants both in India and abroad. Total income<br />

and pr<strong>of</strong>it (after tax) for the year 2004-05 is Rs.1,021<br />

million & Rs 21 million respectively. A dividend <strong>of</strong> 10%<br />

( Rs 6 Million) has been declared by NASL for the year<br />

2004-2005.<br />

PTC INDIA LTD. (PTC), a Joint Venture Company with<br />

NTPC holding 8% equity, is purchasing power from<br />

NTPC Korba ash brick manufacturing unit
