“If the weather is going to
be like today, I shall clock a
very fast time.” said Bolt.
“But your run is always special
even if you do not break
any records.” flattered the person
in charge of the press conference
in response to Bolt’s
comments.
“I enjoy competition but I am
always confident in myself”,
continued Bolt, “Even if I lose
a race I do not lose my confidence.
Much depends on how
comfortable you feel on the
track.” The talk then turned to
football and it was clear that
Bolt is still very interested in
this topic. “I am distressed
that Ronaldo left my favourite
team, Manchester United,
and went to Madrid. He plays
like a real master but we still
have a good team despite losing
two key players and we are
very strong in midfield.” Only
an appeal from the person in
charge of the press conference
put an end to the discussion
on the merits of English
Football.
“For me, it is very important
to win the World Championships
this year”, admitted
Bolt. “It will take me a step
nearer my goal of becoming
a sprint legend. If I win in
Berlin, it will prove that my
IAAF event
victory in Beijing was not accidental.”
Bolt has become the symbol
of the Paris competition and
a whole sector of the stadium
was named after his country in
honour of him. The spectators
sitting in this sector of the stadium
got free black baseball
caps with the inscription of Jamaica
written on it. All service
personnel of the competition
were dressed in over shirts
inscribed Jamaica and from
time to time the background
music in the stadium was
Reggae style. The three times
Olympic Champion and three
times World Record Holder
ran swiftly in Paris to set a new
competition record of 9.79
seconds. With his giant sprint
and his height of 1.95 metres,
he performed like a well oiled
machine trying to escape the
cold rain which unexpectedly
poured down on the stadium.
The most impressive part of
his race was the second half
of the distance. Previously the
weather had been quiet and
hot but the sudden downpour
just before the competition
started, caused the organisers
some problems and, if Bolt
had made a better start, then
even without any extra effort
on his part he could not have
