Travelling is all about seeing &

We know that some of the best experiences

you can have when you travel are not just

at the heart of everything we do today.

Whether you are an experienced traveller or a fi rst time

Meet our team\

What’s better than going to Europe? Having

someone on hand to make sure you have a good

time, that’s what. Our team’s sole purpose is to

make your trip the time of your life.

With our Tour Managers & Tour Drivers at the ready, there’s always a

reliable friend at hand to show you the sights, cool local places &

make everything easy.

Your dedicated Tour Manager is like an on-road guide book. We’ve

plucked the best of the bunch & sent them on a training trip (the best

in the industry) to be able to make the cut on our tours. In fact, we’ve

written the book on training. They’ve done the hard yards, are packed

full of knowledge & they’re ready to share it all with you. They take

care of all the details so everything runs smoothly & will organise a

sightseeing tour or orientation walk in every place that you stop.

Your trusty Tour Drivers are the same, they’ve trained hard to make

sure they’ll get you where you need to go without any hassle. You

can sit back & relax knowing that choosing to go Contiki means

reading a map & fi nding the hotel is never your problem.

And on our ski & board trips in Austria, you’ll get our expert on-site

team at our Contiki-only Gasthof. Because they live on-site, they’re

great for local knowledge & know Hopfgarten like the back of

their hands.

And to top it off, to give our travellers that essential local perspective,

in many locations we also use local guides for an expert insider’s

look at destinations too.

We lead, the others follow.

about travelling on a coach - you’ll see Europe

Travelling on our Contiki coaches is more than just

a way to get around - it’s a social event. You’re

never short of mates to hang out with - it’s a great

place to check out the views, listen to music or

Château Fontager

All hotel accommodation

Sleep easy in hotel accommodation, every night.

Time Out Winter tours are all about having a

comfy home away from home – a place to relax

each night after a busy day.

Comfort to us means great facilities you’ll love -

like TVs in your room, often WiFi, en-suite

bathrooms, laundry facilities & fl uffy towels –

plus concierge services at your fi ngertips. We’re

fl exible too, share with others or get a room to

yourself for a little extra. We’ll get you as close

as we can to the action when you’re in the city

too, so you’re right near the main sights & all the

best bits.

Exclusive, charming, stylish

We’ve not only picked some great hotels for

you to stay in throughout Europe, but some

extra special places too. We call them Feature

Hotels - they really stand out as exceptional, in

distinctive locations & with a heap of great hotel

facilities to enjoy.

Château Fontager, Lyon

Spend a night in the beautiful French countryside

when you stay in this charming castle set in

parklands alongside the River Rhone. Indulge in

delicious French cuisine in the banqueting room,

take a dip in the huge pool, or just sit back & take

in the surroundings.

Eventhotel Pyramide, Vienna

This one-of-a-kind, recently renovated hotel is an

attraction in itself with its quirky shape. The rooms

are deluxe & if you’re feeling like a spot of

pampering, there’s a wellness centre with a tranquil

indoor aquatic world, sauna & pool (just to name a

few!) to chill out in after a busy day’s sightseeing.

Location, location, location

When you stay in the city, it’s not just about great

facilities & comfort. We know it’s essential to be as

close as possible to where the action’s at, so you

spend less time getting there & more time

experiencing the places that count.

In the heart of the city

The Capitol Hotel in Florence & the Ibis Wenceslas

Square Prague are just some of the many hotels

located right in the heart of the city. Just like in

Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Nice & more.

Easy access

You can really live like a local - many of our hotels

have easy access to public transport, so jump on

the Metro, tube or tram & get moving. Like the

Hotel Regent, Rome – just 2 stops on the Metro to

the heart of the city or Blue Square Hotel, Amsterdam

- a 10 minute tram ride to the city centre.

Close to what you want to see

The Ibis Port de Clichy hotel in Paris, close to

Montmartre (home of Sacre Coeur & the

Moulin Rouge), Ibis Old Town in central Prague &

Hotel President, right by the Duomo in Florence

(plus many more).

A ‘room to myself’ option

If you like the idea of a little more privacy & comfort,

you always have the option of getting a room all to

yourself for a little extra. Check out the tour price

panels for details. Limited single rooms available.

Going solo

Leaving your mates at home? Don’t worry. We can

match you with a room-mate, so it’s all good. More

than half our travellers head out on their own &

experience Europe with young, fun & like-minded

travel mates.

Save even more!

On some of our Time Out tours you can save

even more money for other stuff, by booking

triple-share. You’ll save an additional 5% on your

booking. Check out the price panels on the tour

pages to see if you can save.

Helping protect our oceans\

Did you know that oceans cover 71% of the globe, but less than

1% are under legal protected status? Beyond beautiful pictures,

there’s the harsh realization that this environment is fragile & it’s

up to us to protect it for ourselves & for future generations.

Contiki is actively supporting two projects involved in the critical task of marine protection.

We’re helping young environmentalists in their hands-on work protecting the world’s second

largest barrier reef via the Mesoamerican Reef Leadership program. We’re also backing

Oceana’s valuable research work in the Mediterranean Sea.

Check out contiki.com/responsibletravel, where you’ll fi nd a hub of oceans information

designed to inform, inspire & compel change.

Working to make a difference\

Our Foundation.

We’re founding partners of The Travel

Corporation Conservation Foundation, a nonprofit

who has committed more than US$2

million to help underprivileged communities &

support sustainable tourism around the world.

From sponsoring the Tourism for Tomorrow

Awards encouraging tourism operators to

develop & share sustainable tourism practices

globally, to supporting Contiki’s own special

causes such as ocean conservation, the

Foundation is doing some great work.

On the road.

Compared to cars, planes & trains, coaches

are by far the most carbon efficient way

to travel. Our modern coaches are some

of the best in Europe & all exceed strict

emission regulations.

www.ttcconservation

Recycling.

The Travel Corporation & Contiki are

committed to use 100% recycled paper

for the body stock of all our brochures. The

environmental benefi ts are important in the

following ways:

By using paper made from recycled

fi bre we save approximately 90,000 trees

per year.*

Recycled paper makes for less waste

being deposited into landfi lls.

The paper mill uses a chlorine free fi bre

bleaching process (PCF) that avoids

potential dioxins from being release into

adjoining waterways.

The paper mill uses a complex fi ltration

process that returns the river water in a

cleaner state than initially received.

The use of 100% recovered fi bre means

that the mill uses approximately 1/5th

of the energy that would be required

to produce corresponding grades from

primary fi bres.

Contiki & Celine Cousteau

We are excited about our partnership with

leading environmentalist, adventurer & explorer,

Celine Cousteau, granddaughter of legendary

oceanographer, Jacques Cousteau. Celine

will be working with us to raise awareness about

environmental issues, like those affecting precious

marine ecosystems.

As a documentary fi lmmaker & gifted storyteller,

Celine has a fantastic ability to connect with people

from a diverse range of cultures, helping individuals

to better understand their own natural environments.

Check out Celine’s video message for Contiki

travellers at contiki.com/celinecousteau

“I am passionate about

collaborating with

Contiki, their team &

travellers; who are part

of the new generation

of active citizens

making a difference

by understanding &

protecting the Earth’s

resources. The health

of our fragile oceans

are key to the well-being of our planet as a whole

& Contiki‘s choice to help protect the marine

environment is a cause which deeply resonates

with me.” Celine Cousteau.

The body stock paper in our brochures

meets the following Forest/Environmental/

Process Certifi cations: FSC, PEFC, Blue

Angel, ISO 9001 and 14001.

We are proud to commit to using what is one

of the most environmentally friendly coated

recycled paper on Planet Earth.

* Calculation based on that provided by The Environmental

Defense Fund.

What about you?

Looking after our planet is important &

taking care of the environment shouldn’t

stop when you go travelling. There are lots of

small things that you can do each day to make

a difference. Simple stuff like re-using your

drink bottle instead of buying a new one each

day, choosing products with less packaging,

recycling on the go or simply turning off the

lights when you leave your hotel room are all

ways to lessen your environmental impact.

Did you know you can reduce your

carbon footprint even more by offsetting

your travel? Find out how at contiki.com.au/

responsibletravel.

similar standard & location, no liability can

be accepted for any variation of either.

cash in local currencies such as Euro,

Swiss Francs & Great British Pounds.

Optional Activities

When do I choose? Optionals are arranged

& paid for on tour. By leaving the final

decisions until then you can choose at the

same time as your new friends. You’ll get

great value as we get you great rates & your

Tour Manager can offer personal advice.

Some activities are seasonal & weather

dependent as well.

How do I pay? You pay on tour in cash

(Euro, Swiss Francs, GBP or US$ only,

depending on the excursion).

For more info check out contiki.com.au/contikipedia

Do I need

vaccinations?

At the time this brochure went to press

(June, 2011), no vaccinations were

necessary. However, it is wise to check

up-to-date information with your travel

agent prior to departure. Don’t forget to

bring with you any medication that you

may require en route, such as

antihistamines & antibiotics.

Am I expected to

tip on tour?

Every country in the world has different

tipping policies & in Europe, within service

industries, tipping is common practice.

Tipping is totally optional & only given if

you feel the service has exceeded your

expectations. Your Tour Manager will assist

you with any questions about this.

If you think your Contiki Team have done

an exceptional job then you may wish to

tip them. This is entirely discretionary – it’s

completely up to you.

How much luggage

can I bring?

Luggage is restricted to a maximum

suitcase size of 73cm x 50cm x 25cm

(29” x 20” x 10”) & maximum weight of

20 kg (44lbs) plus one small hand/day

bag that can go on the coach with you.

Baggage is carried at the owner’s

risk & baggage insurance is strongly

recommended. Any luggage over the

restricted size or amount can be stored with

Contiki in London at a nominal charge.

Eligibility for this discount is based on clients

having booked & travelled with Contiki (or

one of our Travel Corporation sister brands,

visit www.thetravelcorporation.com for

details) within 5 years of their last tour.

Clients must have completed a tour

before they can redeem the discount on

a subsequent tour booking. Only one

discount can be redeemed per past

traveller annually. A deposit must be

received before the discount can be

applied to the booking. It is not available

on pre & post tour accommodation rates

& other selected products. The discount

applies to brochured prices only & cannot

be combined with any non-brochured

special market promotions.

Brochure authenticity

We have put a great deal of effort into

producing this brochure. The information

given & literature produced by Contiki

has been compiled with care & is

published in good faith. Sometimes,

because of circumstances outside our

control, we have to alter some excursions

due to seasonal closing or repairs to

buildings, etc., especially early or late in

the season. If this happens, alternatives will

be arranged.

Do I need visas?

Please read carefully. Depending on your

nationality, you may require visas to enter

certain countries included in your tour.

You are fully responsible for obtaining all

necessary visas prior to the departure of

your tour. Contiki are not legally permitted

to knowingly allow anybody who does not

have a valid visa to join a tour. Consult your

travel agent to determine which visas you

require & how to obtain them.

Schengen Visas

The majority of our tours travel in countries

that are covered by the Schengen

Agreement which relates to visas. Citizens of

many countries – eg. Australia, United States,

Canada, New Zealand – can travel in the

Schengen area without a visa. If you require

a visa to enter the Schengen area you only

need to obtain one visa which will allow you

to travel in all Schengen countries. Schengen

visas can be issued for single entry or multiple

entries. If your tour travels outside of the

Schengen area at any point you will require

a multiple entry visa. The Spanish Spree tour

requires a multiple entry Schengen visa.

Visas for Non-Schengen Countries

Some of our tours also visit countries that are

not covered by the Schengen Agreement. You

may require visas for countries including the

United Kingdom, Ireland & Egypt. Depending

on your nationality it may be possible to obtain

visas for Egypt upon arrival – you should check

before you depart for your tour.

Important

1. Visas can take up to six weeks & a fee is

normally charged.

2. Failure to obtain all necessary visas could

cause you to miss part of your tour &

will result in you incurring considerable

expense & inconvenience.

3. It is better to apply for all visas through your

travel agent before you leave home. Your

travel agent will contact Contiki for full details.

4. Contiki will provide you with visa contacts

from our London base at the Royal

National Hotel, if necessary.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

1. BOOKING YOUR HOLIDAY

person per tour, or the full amount payable if the booking is

made within 45 days of your departure from Australia, must

be submitted to Contiki by you in respect of that holiday. This

payment is in addition to any deposit required by your travel

agent. The deposit is accepted as a first installment of the holiday

price by Contiki only once the booking has been confirmed in

writing by Contiki or your travel agent.

1.2 Your land reservation will be confirmed on receipt of a non

refundable deposit of A$200 per person per tour which must be

within 7 days of booking or the reservation will automatically

be cancelled.

1.3 Any special meal requirements will be made on a request

basis only. Contiki cannot guarantee special meal requests nor

will it assume any responsibility or liability if clients’ special meal

requirements are not fulfilled.

2.2 If payment isn’t made by the due date, Contiki may assume

that you have cancelled & cancellation charges in accordance

with clause 3 below will be levied by Contiki.

2.3 Tickets & other documents won’t be forwarded until full

payment has been received by us. The documentation will be sent

approximately 21 days prior to your departure from Australia.

2.4 In the case of Late Bookings made within 45 days of your

departure date from Australia, the full cost of the holiday will be

other booking.

3.3 Upon cancellation you will be liable to pay a fee to cover the

estimate of cost & expenses incurred by us in the terms of the

schedule set out hereunder. This is expressed as a percentage of

the holiday price & is calculated as follows:

PERIOD OF NOTICE CANCELLATION FEE

Over 45 days notice: Deposit is forfeited

45-22 days: 27.5% of tour fare

21-8 days: 33% of tour fare

7-1 days: 55% of tour fare

insurance policy which you hold, then any such charges may,

subject to the terms of your insurance policy, be refunded to you

holiday date is also in this brochure.

4.2 A fee of A$35 per person will be charged for any revision or

alteration made to a reservation after the booking is confirmed

unless the change increases the value of the booking. A change

of tour date, tour itinerary booking within 45 days of tour

departure will be treated as a cancellation, & normal cancellation
