The climate characteristics simulated by regional model ALADIN/Climate/CZ (with
GCM ARPEGE-Climat as the lateral forcing) are compared to the data observed for
the period 1961-1990 in the Czech Republic to assess the model's ability to reproduce
the main patterns of the climate in the area. The model’s results were compared to a
newly developed gridded dataset of station observations. As seen, regional model
simulations are not perfect reproductions of the reality and some correction methods
should be used to adjust the simulated values according to the observed ones. The
daily precipitation values simulated by regional model and the values corrected by the
variable correction methods (neural networks, method designed and validated by
Piani et al.) were compared to the data observed with the help of quantile- quantile
plots. Some precipitation indices (for example mean climatological precipitation,
mean wet-day precipitation, percentage of wet days,…) were computed and
investigated for the Czech Republic as a whole.
