What was your motivation to become a PGA Professional?
Love of the game. Started playing golf at a very young age and stuck
with it. I decided after college that I wanted to make the golf business
my profession. Becoming a PGA Professional was the path to take for
fulfilling this goal.
What is your specialty in the golf business?
I don’t know if you would call it a specialty, but back in the early
1990’s one of the positions I help was that of a General Manager for
several years. I really enjoyed the challenge of being able to manage,
operate and be responsible for the entire facility.
What was your greatest moment in golf?
Playing in the 1981 PGA Club Professional Championship at PGA
National in Florida.
What or who has had the greatest impact on your career?
When I obtained my first Head Professional position, there was a
salesman with Tommy Armour Golf by the name of Fred Ziska. He
gave me some great advice as I started out on my new business.
Besides golf, what else do you enjoy?
Getting away and hiking in the mountains and enjoying nature and its’
splendor.
If you could play any golf course in the world, which one would
it be and who would complete your foursome?
August National with Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and
Tom Watson. PS: If they didn’t allow five-somes, I would just caddy!
If you could give lessons to anyone in the world who would it
be and what advice would you give?
After being a rules official for the 2010 Special Olympics and being
around the athletes, I would have to say a group lesson with these
talented players. I would tell them to continue in their pursuit of the
game of golf and always enjoy and have fun.
What is your favorite golf instruction tip?
I used this method to help students slow down and create some
rhythm in their golf swing. On the driving range hit balls that go no
more than half to three quarters the distance of their normal yardages.
It instills the sensation of what a smooth fluid swing feels like.
