BYLAWS OF THE FACULTY OF AEROSPACE AND MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
PREAMBLE
Adopted by the Faculty: November 25, 1997

These are the articles by which the Faculty of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (herein
referred to as the Faculty) at The University of Arizona (herein referred to as The University)
shall function as a professional organization, exercising its authority and responsibility subject to
the constitution and statutes of the State of Arizona and the regulations of the Arizona Board of
Regents and The University. The purpose of these bylaws is to assure orderly means for reaching
and expressing agreement among the Faculty on the governance of the Department of Aerospace
and Mechanical Engineering (herein referred to as the Department).
These Bylaws shall be accompanied by procedures and policies developed and to be developed
by the Faculty that provide more detailed interpretations of these Bylaws and support the Faculty
and Administration of the Department in governance of the Department.
ARTICLE 1—OBJECTIVES
A. To provide a framework by which the Faculty and Administration shall govern the
Department.
B. To provide mechanisms by which the Faculty may function in matters such as: establishment
of goals of the Department, implementation of new degree programs, awarding of
professional and honorary degrees, organization for interdisciplinary studies, resolution of
curricular matters of concern to the Department as a whole, formulation of policies for
promotion and tenure, creation of Faculty recommendations on strategic planning and
resource allocation, and formulation of general policies and procedures.
C. To provide means by which the opinions and needs of the classified staff and students may be
solicited and taken into consideration.
