ably one <strong>of</strong> the first to sail for foreign<br />

those men in the city <strong>of</strong> Hartford, Con-<br />

necticut, whose work meets the never<br />

ceasing need <strong>of</strong> the people, is George<br />

Lewis Whitaker, <strong>of</strong> Whitaker i\; Bacon,<br />

tiie well known car men <strong>of</strong> Trumbull<br />

street.<br />

Whitaker is one <strong>of</strong> those names which<br />

are derived from the location <strong>of</strong> the pro-<br />

genitor's home. It means dweller at the<br />

White Field. It i- <strong>of</strong> English origin, and<br />

dates back to the fourteenth century. The<br />

field was undoubtedly named either be-<br />

cause oi some white flower growing in<br />

abundance in it. or because some incident<br />

making it necessary to designate the place<br />
