AWFS 2011 New & Improved Products Introduction

GENERAL EXPANDS & IMPROVES FAMIILY OF

MOISTURE METERS

Two Low-cost, Ultra-sensitive Models Designed Specifically for

Woodworking Applications

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 20, 2011

(New York, NY) The Family of Moisture Meters from General Tools & Instruments (General®)

features a variety of precision specialty instruments that are affordable, versatile and high-tech. They

provide accurate moisture level readings and are great for selecting dry lumber at the yard and checking

the dampness of wood at home and in the shop. These ultra-sensitive, hand-held instruments also are

helpful in home inspections and other building trades as they additionally detect moisture in carpeting,

concrete, plaster and other building materials. Two models are exceptionally suited for woodworking

applications.

General’s new digital Pinless Non-Invasive LCD Moisture Meter (Model #MMD5NP) is ideal for

woodworkers. As its name suggests, this instrument acquires readings via a non-invasive method, i.e.,

without poking holes in the wood being measured. With improved sensitivity and separate measurement

modes for wood or other building materials, the MMD5NP is remarkably accurate and versatile. It has a

measurement range of 0 to 99.9% WME (Wood Moisture Equivalent), providing a linear scale relative

measurement that prevents confusion over similar readings for different types of wood. The MMD5NP

has a measurement accuracy of +/-3%, resolution of 0.1% and a measuring depth of 3/4 in. What’s

more, ease of use is enhanced by a jumbo LCD display, a hold function and intuitive on-screen icons

(i.e., low/medium/high moisture content; wood/concrete mode).

Another great choice for woodworkers is General’s digital Pin Type LCD Moisture Meter (Model

#MMD4E). It shares most features and specs in common with the MMD5NP. The main differences are

the measurement technique and measurement range. The MMD4E achieves reading via two stainless

steel pins. A protective cap covers the pins when not in use, and the pins are replaceable (General

#PIND4E). This meter’s measurement range is 5 to 50% WME.

General’s Family of Moisture Meters also includes:

Pin Type LED Bar Graph Moisture Meter (Model #MM1E)

Pin Type LCD Moisture Meter with Remote Pin Type Probe (Model #MM70D)

4-In-1 Pin/Pad RH Moisture Meter (Model #MMH800)

Pin/Pinless Deep Sensing Moisture Meter with Spherical Sensor and Remote Probe

(Model #MMD950)

Pin Type LED Bar Graph Moisture Meter (Model #MM1E) This new instrument features: a 10-LED

display, two measurement ranges (7 to 15% and 16 to 35% WME) and a protective cap that doubles as a

calibration checker.

Pin Type LCD Moisture Meter with Remote Pin Type Probe (Model #MM70D) This digital meter

features: data memory of up to 99 readings with maximum/minimum averages recall, a measurement

range of 5.5 to 99.9% WME, auto temperature compensation and internal calibration.

4-In-1 Pin/Pad RH Moisture Meter (Model #MMH800) This new digital instrument features: pintype

and flat surface (non-intrusive dual pad) sensors, two dedicated displays (moisture percentage and

ambient temperature plus relative humidity), a measurement range of 5 to 50% WME and the ability to

hold readings.

Pin/Pinless Deep Sensing Moisture Meter with Spherical Sensor and Remote Probe (Model

#MMD950) This new meter features: two displays (a jumbo LCD and a 40-dot tri-color LED bar

graph), a measurement range of 0 to 99.9% WME, a data hold function and two measurement modes

(pin and pinless). Pinless mode uses the integral spherical sensor and measures the average moisture

level up to a depth of 4 in. Pin mode uses replaceable pins at the end of a 46 in. cable.
