Summer 2012 <strong>Test</strong> Schedule<br />
The <strong>TEAS</strong> exam is used to evaluate entry level skills and abilities <strong>of</strong> nursing program<br />
applicants.<br />
Who is required to take the <strong>TEAS</strong> test?<br />
Students who are applying to the UTEP Nursing program.<br />
PROCEDURES:<br />
• Step 1: Determine if you need to take the exam<br />
All students who are applying to the School <strong>of</strong> Nursing must take the <strong>TEAS</strong>. If you<br />
have any questions, contact the School <strong>of</strong> Nursing at (915) 747-7273.<br />
• Step 2: Registration & Payment Procedures<br />
Make sure you have a credit card ready and go to http://www.atitesting.com.<br />
(NOTE: This process can also be done by phone at (800) 667-7531.)<br />
1. Select “Register for <strong>TEAS</strong>” in the lower right-hand corner.<br />
2. Select city and state and select “next.”<br />
3. Choose the site that is most convenient for you and select “register.” You will then<br />
see your shopping cart and a “check out” button on the bottom right-hand corner to<br />
select. Then you must create a user name and password (or use one you already<br />
have). Be sure to select something you will remember.<br />
4. Once you’ve logged in, fill in the account information and then use your credit card<br />
to pay for the exam.<br />
**NOTE1: There is a 30-day waiting period to retake the <strong>TEAS</strong>.<br />
**NOTE2: The <strong>TEAS</strong> exam can only be taken TWICE.<br />
• Step 4: On the day <strong>of</strong> the test<br />
Report to the Student Assessment & <strong>Test</strong>ing Office 15 minutes early for check-in. If<br />
you arrive late, you may not be admitted.<br />
You will be required to present an <strong>of</strong>ficial identification card with a current photo.<br />

• U.S. Driver’s License<br />
• UTEP Identification Card<br />
• Passport<br />
• U.S. Department <strong>of</strong> Public Safety Identification Card<br />
• U.S. Military Identification Card<br />

• U.S. High School Yearbook<br />
• Notarized letter with a recent photo<br />
NO OTHER FORMS OF IDENTIFICATION WILL BE ACCEPTED<br />

• Register early; space is limited.<br />
• If you do not pre-register, you may test on a stand-by basis and will be admitted<br />
only if space is available.<br />

THE <strong>TEAS</strong>?<br />
<strong>TEAS</strong> <strong>Test</strong> Information<br />
The <strong>TEAS</strong> is an internet-based, multiple-choice, exam that assesses a student’s abilities in four essential<br />
subject areas: reading, math, science, & English and language usage. It is designed to measure a<br />
candidate's likelihood <strong>of</strong> success in a college nursing program by measuring achievement in critical<br />
academic skills. The current version <strong>of</strong> the test is V.<br />
Reading: (40 questions, 50 minutes) – section includes questions regarding paragraph comprehension,<br />
passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions.<br />
Math: (45 items, 56 minutes) – section includes questions regarding whole numbers, metric conversions,<br />
fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportion.<br />
*Calculators are NOT allowed*<br />
Science: (30 items, 38 minutes) – section includes questions regarding science reasoning, science<br />
knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, basic physical principles, and general science.<br />
English and Language Usage: (55 items, 65 minutes) – section includes questions regarding punctuation,<br />
grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling.<br />
Total test time: 3 hours and 29 minutes<br />
<strong>Test</strong> results are available immediately after the exam on the computer screen – a copy <strong>of</strong> the scores will not<br />
be issued. Students can view and print a copy <strong>of</strong> their test scores anytime at www.atitesting.com using the<br />
login and password that was created during the test session. The School <strong>of</strong> Nursing will have access to view<br />
the test scores as well.<br />
The School <strong>of</strong> Nursing recommends that applicants have a score at the “Pr<strong>of</strong>icient” level (58.7%), or<br />
above, in order to be competitive for the UTEP nursing program.<br />

You can send your scores to another school by going to the ATI website and locating the online store (at<br />
the top <strong>of</strong> the webpage). Here, you will simply select your <strong>TEAS</strong> transcript to add to your cart and<br />
purchase. There is a $25 charge to transfer the scores and they are typically received by the other school<br />
within 24 hours.<br />
Examinees can purchase a <strong>TEAS</strong> study guide or take the <strong>TEAS</strong> Online Practice Assessment for a fee<br />
