Project NEON is proud to bring you the 60th issue of AmphetaZINE!
AZ’s sole purpose is to provide you with accurate and non-judgmental HIV prevention and
crystal meth risk reduction information.
This 60th issue is designed to support and encourage your access to Seattle’s health and
social service resources.
As you flip through this AZ you will notice it has some utility to it. It is a 2010 calendar!
We want to help you start the New Year right by arranging and keep track of your health
appointments!
On behalf of NEON staff and peer educators we wish you a happy and safe holiday season
and remember – we’re here when you’re ready to talk – 206.323.1768
Dear AZ readers,
You might want to sit down for this.
In the future, this AZ will be made available to you on the project NEON website www.projectneon.org only. What does
that mean you might ask? This means that this 60th issue will be the last hard copy of the AZ that NEON prints.
The creative, informational and stimulating AZ will continue to be created four times a year but will only be available
on NEON’s website. At projectneon.org you can download the AZ along with all the other hot educational brochures
NEON creates for gay/bi men who shoot meth.
Question: What if I need a list of updated health and STD resources in Seattle? 603
Answer: Every issue of AZ provides a list of updated resources on pages 6, 18 and 19; ask any NEON peer educator
for a copy of AZ.
Question: What if I don’t have access to the Internet?
Answer: the AZ is designed to be an informational publication. All of the information in the AZ can be found in various
other publications that NEON produces and updates regularly. A NEON peer educator can provide you with a brochure
specific to your information need.
Question: Is Dr. Dick still going to be around?
Answer: Yes! Dr. Dick will continue to take your STI related questions, just email: info@projectneon.org
Question: How can I give feedback, comments and/or submit stories, artwork?
Answer: You can submit feedback, comments or questions to info@projectneon.org or visit our blog:
www.projectneon.org /blog and add it.

Good hydration is essential!
Water is your best friend when it comes to veins!
Knowing your own and your partner’s HIV status
is an important part of maintaining one’s overall
health. However, because one advertises their yearold
HIV status in an online profile or in person does
not necessarily mean it is accurate and frankly it’s a
big risk to take.
Additionally, someone is HIV negative can have
another sexually transmitted infection (STI)
present. Anal and/or oral sex without condoms
can still spread infections such as syphilis and
gonorrhea.
Dear Dr Dick,
Be sure to talk more about this with your partners
and even your doctor to settle on a decision that
works best for all parties.
Best,
Dr. Dick
Like so many other gay and bisexual men in Seattle
I spend a great deal of time online looking for hookups.
It seems that is where all the HOT guys hang out.
When I hookup with guys from websites I practice safe
sex. However recently I met two guys online that I am
considering barebacking with. That’s cool if all parties
involved are HIV negative right? Both of guys have
posted the following statement in their online profiles:
"HIV NEG as of November 20, 2008."
So here my question: is it safe to bareback
with them?
Hooked on the Man Hunt
Dear Hooked on the Man Hunt,
Thank you for your question!
The short answer is, no, barebacking (intentional unprotected
anal sex) is a very risky sexual practice and
it may be more risky with someone who tested negative
nearly a year ago than with someone who’s known
to be HIV+ and who’s viral load on anti-retroviral
drugs is undetectable. Barebacking can easily transmit
HIV, along with several other sexually transmitted
infections.
