FAMILY MATH NIGHT

with KIM SUTTON

Wednesday, January 23

5:30-7:30 PM

Next Wednesday, we have the great fortune to participate in a Family Math Night with

Kim Sutton. This night is for BOTH students and parents and will be LOTS OF FUN! There

will be plenty of math games for children from kindergarten through fifth grade.

In preparation for the night, let us know if you and your child(ren) will be attending.

That way we can be sure to have enough tables, handouts, and snacks for the evening.

Please RSVP to our math specialist, Ed Watson, at ed.watson@camas.wednet.edu

Thank you to those who have already responded. If you are not sure yet that you can

attend, but find you are free on Wednesday, please come join us.

The Grass Valley PTA is gearing up for the SPRING SILENT AUCTION, in conjunction with the

Spring Carnival, taking place on Friday, May 17, and needs your help! Do you have a

connection through work, patronage or friendship to a local business? Would you be

willing to donate or ask them to donate an item for the event? If so, please contact Beth

Currie at 412.817.9050 or curriebeth5@gmail.com for donation instructions and information

on how donors will be recognized for their generosity.

Along with donations from businesses, staff will donate "experience packages" (e.g., a trip

to the movies, pedicures, or pizza night out with a teacher) and classrooms will donate

“themed” baskets. Further information will be sent home in the near future on how you

can contribute to the classroom baskets.

To find a list of items already donated, go to the PTA website or click HERE.

The Green Stripe

Grass Valley Works Together for Green Goal

Mrs. Brouillet supervised fifth-grade volunteers to count

plastic bottle caps during a few of their recesses. This is

just a portion of the 17,000 caps they counted to add to

the total for our April competition with three other local

schools. Grass Valley students, staff, and families have

saved bags and bags of plastic threaded bottle caps

from the landfill!

At the first Eco Officer meeting in November, we were

faced with the daunting task of counting and labeling lots

of bottle caps. It sure saves us time if you count and label

at home. That way we’ll have time to plan for Earth Day or

WA Green School goals.

Math students in Mrs. Neumann’s and Mrs. Curtis’s

classrooms used caps for sorting and for counting by 10’s

and 100’s to meet state standards.

Thanks to teamwork, our bottle cap recycling is a

sustainable, manageable project! Stay tuned for other Green

Stripe news on energy

conservation, Earth Day

plans, and integrating our

school garden into the

curriculum. We always

welcome suggestions and

volunteer help.

~ The Grass Valley

Green Team

Keep collecting bottle caps for our April

competition which will be in conjunction with

our Earth Day celebration.

1st grader Annie M.’s name was drawn at

movie night. She took home a copy of

Madagascar 3 and this fun rainbow wig.

During a Zebra’s birthday month, they are

invited to attend a birthday lunch celebration

on stage and pick a book from the book cart.

These Zebras are celebrating their July half

birthdays!

Congratulations to all the students who

participated in the Reflections Art Contest!
