Penguin News October 13, 2011 - Camas School District

Dear Penguin Families,

A big thank you to all who are

volunteering time to support learning

at school. We all greatly appreciate

the time that you give to

support our efforts in the classroom!

Every small task that you

take on for us allows us to spend

our time and energy with the students

themselves and their academic

needs. Our school is better

due to the partnerships that we

have with you, and sends a strong

message to the students that their

school and their education is very

important to all of us. Thanks also

to all who attended our grade level

curriculum nights put on by highly

qualified teachers. Your support

of our work and your child's academic

career are greatly appreciated.

Fall conferences have begun! I

strongly urge you to attend them

to get up-to-date information on

your child’s academic progress.

This is a great time to ask any

questions or bring up concerns

that you may have regarding

homework, friendships, or supporting

areas of school at home.

Often, parent-teacher conferences

‘connect the dots’ so to speak between

school and home, which

allows us to better understand

your children. If you had a student

take the MSP last spring (grades 3

-5), results have been sent home to

you. A letter accompanies the test

results explaining your child’s

progress. Should you have further

questions, feel free to speak with

your child’s current teacher.

Upcoming Events & Reminders:

*We hope to see your family October

28 from 5:30-8:00 for our

PTA sponsored Kid-fest and Silent

Auction. Friendly costumes

welcome!

*We are collecting quite a collec-

tion of clothing in the

lobby. Please encourage your

child to check the Lost and Found

as it is beginning to grow! Names

written in clothing help to get

them back to their owners.

*Drivers: Please continue dropping

students off downstairs each

morning at 8:45! Upstairs lot is for

bus loading and unloading only

unless you are tardy or arriving

late.

Please do not hesitate to call with

any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Julie Swan

Sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies

Auxiliary of the State of Washington, Prune Hill

students in grades 3-5 are encouraged to submit an

essay around the theme “What is an American?”

Applications are available in the office and should be

turned back to the PHE office by October 28. The application

gives specifics about the contest.

Students from Prune Hill have been honored in the past

as regional winners and have gone on to have their essays

judged at the state level. We are thrilled to have

our local Camas/Washougal VFW be involved in judging

and honoring local student winners.

We encourage students to participate this year.
