Words of Life As a doctor, the freedom to practice based not only on scientific knowledge but also on my faith and conscience allows me and all physicians and healthcare providers to offer the best quality of medicine possible. As a patient, I want my doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers to offer the same type of care. The moment we allow our conscience to be replaced by a government “conscience,” we begin to lose our freedom. The Christian Foundation for Children & Aging currently works in 22 countries around the world, and serves more than 300,000 children, youth and aging persons with the generous support of more than 250,000 sponsors. See www.cfcusa.org. Child sponsorship What differentiates CFCA's Hope for a Family sponsorship program from other sponsorship organizations is that we work with each child in the context of the whole family, recognizing that the child's wellbeing depends, in large part, on the family’s well-being. We recognize that what impacts the family, particularly the mother, affects the child. Youth sponsorship Young women and men in the Hope for a Family sponsorship program know the best way to help their families is to finish school. It is not uncommon for youth in developing countries to leave school to help their family make ends meet. We are committed to helping students stay in school and complete their education so they can create a better future for themselves and their families. Sponsorship of the aging We are the only major U.S.-based sponsorship organization to sponsor the elderly. Through our Hope for a Family sponsorship program, the aging receive benefits that focus on providing better nutrition, access to health care, adequate housing and social activities. Some sponsored aging members also participate in skills training or income-generating workshops. Most importantly, they are welcomed into a caring community and feel less alone. Scholarship program Programs focused on specific needs The CFCA Scholarship Program was created to help deserving young adults pursue goals for higher education. These young men and women are committed to helping their communities, and they become mentors to younger children. Scholarship recipients must maintain satisfactory grades and fulfill requirements for community service. We have a variety of programs and initiatives that help families living in poverty in specific ways. These programs not only address immediate needs, but focus on long-term solutions that can help families live more dignified lives and become self-sufficient. We fund livelihood programs for parents, sustainable food programs, housing programs, health and sanitation programs, and programs that support families following a disaster, among others.
