The Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera Cochapampa Ltda. was founded in 1990
because farmers in the area needed to sell their coffee at a better price.
Initially, there were only 40 members, but today there are over 210. Of those
members, 156 produce certified coffee. The cooperative has worked to
improve overall quality by constructing a communal wet-mill and installing
mechanical dryers. The coffee is grown among shade tress, such as Pacae,
Albicia, Cedron, and Avocado, and fruit trees like Banana, Loquat, and
Pineapple. The local ecology of the area supports over 30 different types of
native butterflies.
