The Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera <strong>Cochapampa</strong> <strong>Ltda</strong>. was founded in 1990<br />

because farmers in the area needed to sell their coffee at a better price.<br />

Initially, there were only 40 members, but today there are over 210. Of those<br />

members, 156 produce certified coffee. The cooperative has worked to<br />

improve overall quality by constructing a communal wet-mill and installing<br />

mechanical dryers. The coffee is grown among shade tress, such as Pacae,<br />

Albicia, Cedron, and Avocado, and fruit trees like Banana, Loquat, and<br />

Pineapple. The local ecology of the area supports over 30 different types of<br />

native butterflies.<br />
