4 Known for pioneering new medical techniques, the Hadassah Medical Center is furnished with the most sophisticated diagnostic, treatment and research equipment. Order a bouquet of cut flowers, a floral arrangement or a blooming plant delivered by a local florist. Prices vary, see the Flower Flyer in your Group bulletins or check the Chapter website for more information. Consider becoming a Seed or a Keeper of the Gate. Seeds of Tomorrow is a Greater Washington program and involves a $500 contribution per year. Keepers of the Gate is a National Hadassah program and involves a $1,000 annual contribution for as long as you are able. As a Seed or a Keeper, you can attend any Chapter or Group function that has a donation as part of the admission price for the couvert price only. For example, you can attend Hadassah Presents for the couvert only. Contact the office for further information. For a minimum $2500 contribution, $1800 if you are a first-time attendee, (plus couvert of $125 pp) you can attend our Special Gifts Gala Dinner on October 5 at the Woodmont Country Club. If these programs are out of your reach, a new Greater Washington Area level of giving is making its debut. The Chai Club will have a minimum contribution of $180. Details will be available soon. A Beginners’ conversational class will be held at 11:30am. Ability to read Hebrew is essential, and a minimum of six students is required to form a group. As the VP of Communications, a new Executive Committee portfolio for GWAC, my main objective for this year is to assist in enhancing and facilitating inter-Group communications. This means getting group information distributed and providing better access for individual Hadassah members (as well as future members). This new endeavor will include streamlining some existing practices, creating new procedures, and exploring the use of ever-changing technology and media. Developing a broader and more regular communications exchange is a vital element for a healthy organization, and I hope we can Chapter Scholars Series “WINDS OF CHANGE.” Do you follow current events in the news? The first step in enhancing our ability to better communicate is the need to reach all members. While we are committed to assisting those Groups still dependent upon paper bulletins, we are sure the majority of our membership can take advantage of electronic communications—an efficient, costeffective, and “green” method of exchange. However, in actuality, we only have a small percentage of member email addresses. This clearly impedes our ability to connect and inform. While we can mail this Chapter bulletin only two times per year, our Chapter eBlasts delivered via email are sent out two times per month. If you are overwhelmed by email, our GWAC Facebook page will be regularly updated with Group and Chapter news and events. Whether you are part of an existing GWAC Group or a GWAC member at large, I am asking for your help and participation in making the connection. Amy Forrester, VP Communications AVIVA will encourage our members to build relationships with each other and with Hadassah by changing the format of our meetings this year. Our social time will be extended and our focus during the business meeting will be on educational presentations, followed by thought-provoking programs. Our members will have the opportunity to explore a myriad of topics, including Jews & Chocolate: Such an Interesting Connection!, a Contemporary Analysis of Medical Ethics, and the possible impact of the BRCA gene on our heath and that of our children. Even our Hanukkah party will feature a Book & Author component, with Eleanor Sontag. Fundraising plans this year include an October 30 matinee of Parade at historic Ford’s Theatre.
