As the VP of Communications, a new
Executive Committee portfolio for GWAC,
my main objective for this year is to
assist in enhancing and facilitating inter-Group
communications. This means
getting group information distributed
and providing better access for individual
Hadassah members (as well as future
members). This new endeavor will
include streamlining some existing
practices, creating new procedures, and
exploring the use of ever-changing
technology and media. Developing a
broader and more regular communications
exchange is a vital element for a
healthy organization, and I hope we can
Chapter Scholars Series “WINDS OF CHANGE.” Do
you follow current events in the news? Do you read the
newspaper? Twitter? Facebook? Every day some government
is making decisions that not only affect its citizens,
but also affect Israel and Jews around the world. On December
6, Hadassah will bring you Winds of Change: The
Fast-Moving Events of Today’s Middle East and Their
Effects on Israel.” Deb Saxon, a lobbyist of Greater
Washington AIPAC will discuss the latest events and
their effect on Israel. Deb Saxon promotes aid to Israel
and other legislation to strengthen cooperation between
the U.S. and Israel. Join us at Temple Shalom, 8401 Grubb
Rd., Silver Spring from 11-2. Bring a dairy or parve lunch.
Coffee, tea and dessert will be provided. This event is
FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Call (301) 881-8203.
L’DOR V’DOR—from generation to generation. Hadassah
has inspired and sustained strong leaders. A
LEADER Leads, Excites, Anticipates, Delivers, Excels and
Rewards. Our goal for this year is to create opportunities
for you to develop and strengthen your leadership skills.
It’s about YOU! Please join me for the Fall Chapter Leadership
Seminars Sept. 11 from 3-5pm and Nov. 20 from 3-
5 pm or contact me at bsbressman@earthlink.net or
(301) 977-9160 to schedule a Group Leadership Get Together.
May we all have the courage like our founder,
Henrietta Szold, to dream big and lead. I look forward to
growing with you as you focus on YOU and YOUR leadership
skills. Becky S. Bressman, Leadership VP
count on the support and cooperation
from all Groups and members as we
work out the new processes.
The first step in enhancing our ability
to better communicate is the need to
reach all members. While we are committed
to assisting those Groups still
dependent upon paper bulletins, we are
sure the majority of our membership
can take advantage of electronic communications—an
efficient, costeffective,
and “green” method of exchange.
However, in actuality, we only
have a small percentage of member
email addresses. This clearly impedes
our ability to connect and inform. While
we can mail this Chapter bulletin only
two times per year, our Chapter eBlasts
delivered via email are sent out two
times per month. If you are overwhelmed
by email, our GWAC Facebook
page will be regularly updated with
Group and Chapter news and events.
Whether you are part of an existing
GWAC Group or a GWAC member at
large, I am asking for your help and participation
in making the connection.
Please send your current email address
to bwash@hadassah.org, follow us on
Facebook and make checking up on Hadassah
a part of your routine.
Amy Forrester, VP Communications
AVIVA will encourage
our members to build
relationships with each
other and with Hadassah
by changing the
format of our meetings
this year. Our social time will be extended and our focus during the
business meeting will be on educational presentations, followed by
thought-provoking programs. Our members will have the opportunity
to explore a myriad of topics, including Jews & Chocolate: Such
an Interesting Connection!, a Contemporary Analysis of Medical Ethics,
and the possible impact of the BRCA gene on our heath and that
of our children. Even our Hanukkah party will feature a Book & Author
component, with Eleanor Sontag. Fundraising plans this year
include an October 30 matinee of Parade at historic Ford’s Theatre.
Please join the interesting and welcoming women of Aviva for a
meeting or a fundraiser. We promise you’ll be greeted at the door
and enjoy your time with us! Sherry Kabran (skabran@aol.com) and
Helene Kahan (momkahan@gmail.com), Co-Presidents
