Operation Transmission: Plugging Wind Into America (2C)
(Room B309 – Transmission Track)
From the Southeast to the Northwest and places in between, wind power transmission connects energy to the
nation. This session delves into both technical and business topics, and provides regional perspectives on utilities,
transmission and generation developers, and state regulators.
Modeling and Measurement – Current Advances in the State of the Art (Scientific) (2D)
(Room B312 – Resource Assessment Track)
This session pulls together two key concepts to wind resource assessment; modeling the wind flow, and measuring
the wind speed. The first two presenters show how numerical wind flow models can be used to predict stabilityinduced
wind patterns in complex terrain, and how atmospheric stability affects turbine power performance. A panel
discusses wind tunnel calibration of anemometers, and state-of-the-art treatment for blockage and off-axis flow
effects.
Session Chair / Moderator: Dan Bernadett, Chief Engineer, AWS Truepower
