EXPLORER’S DAY CAMP

All activities are designed with an emphasis on safety and fun in an atmosphere that

promotes cooperation, teamwork and good sportsmanship. Daily activities include

Red Cross swim lessons, new games, team building and arts and crafts.

Weekly special events and field trips are also planned. Each week of

camp will have a different theme, so be ready for anything! A sample of

live performers includes music, a puppet show, and a circus and comedy

show . All camp staff are CPR, First Aid and Funtastic-certified! Camper to

“Fun Squad” ratio is 10:1 and campers are grouped according to age/grade level, with a

new member of the “Fun Squad” each week. A camp t-shirt is included in your registration

(1 per season).

Spend this summer cooking up some delicious creations. Learn to measure and mix

ingredients, use a variety of kitchen tools and techniques, and follow recipes in this fun

and interactive culinary camp. At this year’s camp, we will be going on a shopping adventure

at the local Price Chopper where campers will learn to plan, shop for and cook

C.R.E.W. CAMP

Chill - Recreate - Explore - Wii

Relax this summer in a chill atmosphere where you can play, hang out, swim, bike and venture outside.

This camp is perfect for unwinding and enjoying those warm summer days. Our adventurous staff will

initiate group games, let you hang out with your friends, play video games and go swimming & biking.

Weekly field trips will also be planned with transportation provided; they also plan to bike to Indian Brook

two times a week. Camp takes place at Essex Middle School, Sand Hill Park Pool, Indian Brook and other

local hot spots.

Please bring 2 nutritious snacks, a lunch, beverage, swim suit,

towel and bike (w/helmet) to camp each day. A t-shirt is included in your registration (1 per season).

JUNIOR TENNIS CAMPS

The main objective is to help each participant learn the basic stroke techniques

used in the game of tennis including forehand and backhand ground strokes,

volleys, serves, returns and overhead smashes. Participants will learn spins,

grips and swing techniques as well as different play strategies. Your child will

get hooked on tennis with game-based learning and focus on building selfconfidence

and sportsmanship. A tennis racquet may be loaned to individuals;

please request during registration. In the event of inclement weather, every

attempt will be made to schedule indoor court time or have a make-up day.

CHALLENGER SOCCER CAMPS

This soccer camp provides young players with the rare opportunity to receive

high-level soccer coaching from a team of international experts right in the

heart of their own community. They allow players of all ages and abilities the

appropriate program and level of curriculum and a wonderful cultural and educational

camp experience!

Each day includes individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, smallsided

games, coached scrimmages & a daily tournament. Equally important, the Challenger coaching

staff provides your child with lessons in self-discipline, good sportsmanship and respect for others and

for the game. Campers will enjoy a daily program of camp break activities and an end of camp graduation

party!

EARTH EXPLORER’S

No stone is left unturned (literally!) as this camp sets out to prove that science

can be active and fun. Daily field trips and hands-on science experiments will

give campers a chance to see all the angles of this amazing earth we are a part of.

From geology and water testing to animal tracking and chemistry experiments,

the week will be full of discovery! Water, air, light, animals, plants...prepare for five

days of messy, creative and informative activity.

CLAY CAMP

Let your creative energies flow! In this camp, kids will learn basic hand building

methods in clay including coil, slab, pinch and sculpture. They will also learn

how to make pots on the pottery wheel. Pieces will be fired, glazed and ready

to pick up at our office approximately two weeks after the last day of camp.

C.I.T. PROGRAM - Counselor in Training

We are pleased to offer the C.I.T. program again; however,

this year we’ve switched it up a bit! For 2012, we invite those

interested in becoming a C.I.T. to submit their application to

our office. Those candidates chosen will then be included in

our Fun Squad Staff Training in June before summer camps

begin. The C.I.T. program will officially begin the week of

July 9th and jump right in to assisting counselors and prepping activities to lead with

the support of our hired staff. Being an integral part of our Explorer’s Day Camp will offer hands-on

experiences preparing each C.I.T. for future paid positions through our department. Not only will they

learn activity planning but also group-management & leadership skills, as well as group cooperation techniques.

CPR and 1st Aid certification will be covered during staff training and those C.I.T.’s who successfully

complete the program will be eligible for future employment at Essex Parks and Recreation Summer

Programs and the Essex Extended School Program. The program fee will cover certification and team

building activities offered during training expenses.

CENTRE STAGE

Do you love the “spotlight”? This music camp is for young singers that are

ready to bring their talent to the next level. Develop stage presence, song

delivery and confidence. Gain experience in “staging” and take part in a final

show for friends and family on the last day of camp.

The final show will be at 4:30 p.m. on the last day of each camp week.

BOYS LAX CAMP

NEW THIS YEAR! We’ve added in a new week for those entering grades 3 - 5

in the fall to take your game to the next level with Coaches Dean Corkum

and Leo LaBonte! Individual skill development including passing, catching,

dodging and shooting, and team development of offense and defense will

be covered. This camp is designed to have fun in a low key atmosphere.

Participants should provide their own stick, arm pads and gloves. We may

be able to assist in finding equipment for those who are new to the game;

please let our office know during registration. Mouthguards are required.

KNITTING CAMP

Learn how to knit or improve your knitting skills this summer as you relax with

your friends in a comfortable setting. Enjoy the fun of knitting with a group

HOOK A KID ON GOLF

This weeklong clinic will introduce swing fundamentals, rules, etiquette and history

program is developed and administered by the National Alliance for Youth Sports.

To be eligible, participants must have never played and not own a set of clubs.

Young Rembrandts Art Camp

Learn to draw both silly and scary monsters and dinosaurs with Young Rembrandts!

We’ll focus on how to show emotion through expressive faces and

exaggerated features. Our creations will come to life in cartoon sequences

that put them in some very human situations! Our step-by-step process

and coloring techniques will help campers develop a lifetime of creativity!

ROCK 'N ROPES CAMP

We’re back for another exciting year with great challenges, initiatives and

fun games. Campers will experience our state-of-the-art challenge courses

and climbing facilities while enhancing communication skills, building

trust, learning GPS map and compass skills, and gaining new rock climbing

skills. Soar to new heights on the high challenge course, zooming down our

ziplines and working together to complete challenges on our low and midlevel

courses. In addition to all the fun-filled adventures, the 5-day camps

will also enjoy one culinary class, two swimming sessions at The Essex and one day of wilderness survival;

the 3-day week will include one swimming session. Parents and siblings are invited at the end of the

BLOWFISH ROBOCRAFT

It is loads of fun to build - It’s a Robotfish with big, puffy cheeks for you to build

and take home! It is great to play with and educational too. Watch it as it moves

in our miniature pool. Our Blowfish Robocraft is propelled forward by a left/right

moving tail fin. Learn about gears and circuits as you have fun building it while

learning how the motor works too. We will see how fast your Blowfish Robocraft is,

as you enter our Sciensational races. You will also get to design and build other robots

that can perform many tasks. Build a car for speed and go on our obstacle course.

YOUTH BASEBALL

FLIP, DANCE & CHEER CIRCUS CAMP

Join us for a fun filled week of gymnastics, dance, cheerleading and circus

skills! Campers will work daily on gymnastics skills such as rolls, jumps,

handstands, walkovers, round-offs and all different kinds of cartwheels!

They’ll have fun working on cheerleading skills such as arm motions,

chants, jumps and cheers! We will also choreograph cool dances to awesome

music such as tunes from the TV show “Shake it Up”, Selina Gomez

and any others the kids decide on! New this year will be fun activities using

international music from India, China and more. Kids are encouraged

to bring appropriate music with a good beat to share. Circus skills such as

balancing feathers, juggling beanbags and scarves, clown acts and specialties will be learned using the

music of Cirque du Soleil! This is a non-competitive atmosphere where each child will be taught at his/her

level. Campers will incorporate their new skills into routines for an exciting BIG SHOW on Friday!! For the

show, campers will need a plain, white t-shirt and black bike shorts. Everyone will get to take home an

awesome circus prop on the last day to continue to practice and wow their friends!

GEOCACHING CAMP

Learn, seek and create in this new interactive camp that will get you

outdoors exploring. The week will begin learning about geocaching

and searching what caches (or hidden treasures) are located in our

community. Next, you’ll go out and find those caches using GPS units,

keeping the treasure hunt going. Post your comments about what you

found, while creating your own new caches to hide for others to find.

Test your mapping and clue-finding skills; by the end of the week you’ll

make your treasures “active”. The more there is to find out there, the more fun the scavenger hunt will be.

Transportation to local parks and GPS units will be provided during the week. Dress for the outdoors and

be ready to venture out there!

SOCCER: SPEED, STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

Do you want to gain an advantage on the competition before starting your soccer season?

Its time to amp up your level of conditioning to get ahead of the game. This camp

is designed to give you a jump-start on your soccer season. It will be soccer specific

emphasizing endurance, core strength, speed, and explosive power. The fall soccer

season can be demanding on the body; join your instructor, Leo Labonte, to prepare

yourself and get started early. This program will meet on Mondays,Wednesdays &

Fridays.

CLOWN ACADEMY

Upon entering the Clown Academy, be prepared to learn all kinds of fun and

exciting tricks, like how to tie balloon animals and juggle! Learn the excit-

clown will have the opportunity to design their very own unique clown outfit.

DIG IN! - Archaeology Camp

Explore the fascinating world of archaeology in this fun, hands-on camp! By

excavating a simulated site, students will learn how archaeologists uncover

the remains of ancient civilizations and how they understand what they find.

archaeological discoveries in ancient Greece and the Near East.

INTRO TO SAILING

This is an introductory sailing camp where participants will learn the basics of

rigging, sailing maneuvers, safety and recovery in a safe and fun environment.

Certified instructors lead a variety of land and water based activities designed to

Rosemary and her qualified staff this summer at New Horizons

Farm at the Natural Horsemanship Center of Vermont and let

your journey with horses begin! This week of camp will cover riding (English

and/or Western), feeding, general horse care, stall cleaning, as well as horse

grooming & tacking. This week of camp will spark your child’s interest in

horses and all that goes in to caring for them, expand their knowledge

and be able to ride all week with friends. Campers will also be given the

opportunity to paint the horses - that’s right, paint them!

Boots with a heel is required; helmets are mandatory and can be provided.

SURVIVOR CAMP

Become the ultimate survivor while working with others on your “tribe”! Using

communication, creativity, and teamwork, campers will work together to accomplish

daily teambuilding activities and challenges. Unlike tribe members on the popular

reality TV show, all campers have immunity so no one gets voted off! Get ready for

a wild week of unique challenges, a scavenger hunt and relay race! Campers should

bring a bathing suit, and a change of clothes as some challenges will get messy! It is

also encouraged that each camper have access to a bicycle & helmet for the week of

camp.

Resident registration begins:

Online and in our office starting February 17, 2012 @ 12:00 p.m., or when you receive your brochure.

Non-resident registration begins:

Online & mail-in on March 2, 2012 @ 7:30 a.m.

Registration for all programs is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Sorry, we do not take registrations over the phone.

PAY 50% DEPOSIT! When you register (online, mail or office) you can pay 50% now with the remaining balance

due on June 1st! Please remember, you must print, complete all paperwork in order for your child to be

fully enrolled in camp(s). If the balance of your account is not paid in full by June 1st, your child’s enrollment will

be offered to waitlisted registrants.

RESIDENTS: If you live anywhere in Essex (Town

or Village) you are considered a resident. Anyone

outside of the Essex community is considered a nonresident.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Are for residents of the

Essex community only. Confidential applications

and paperwork must be submitted to the Director

of Parks and Recreation before scholarships can be

processed.

CANCELLATION POLICY: To be eligible for a

refund for a camp cancellation, we must be notified

of this withdrawal four (4) weeks prior to the start

of camp. There is a $5.00 admin. fee for each

cancelled week that is refunded or credited. (This

only applies to any cancellation four weeks or greater

to the start date of a camp).

Cancelling three (3) weeks prior to the start of camp,

the admin. fee is $10.00 for each camp; Two (2)

weeks prior equals $15.00 admin. fee and one (1)

week prior equals $20.00 each and only if the spot

can be filled by a new camp enrollment.

There are Extended Camp Care options for your convenience this summer.

Extended Camp Care options will have trained staff on hand to escort children to and from camp.

Please indicate any extended care you will need for you child on the registration form or when asked during

online registration. The Extended Camp Care options are for Specialty Camps only.

Early Camp Care

Early Camp Care offers a constructive, creative, and safe environment for those campers waiting for

Specialty camps to begin, as some camps start later in the morning. When registering online, you will be

asked if you would like this extended care option.

The fee will be automatically applied to your total for each week of camp.

Half-Day Camp Care

Half Day Camp Care allows children participating in Specialty camps to take part in Explorer’s Day Camp

or C.R.E.W. Camp for half of the day. Afternoon campers may participate in various activities including: arts

and crafts, sports, new games, and a recreational swim at Sand Hill Park pool (when time allows). Campers

attending the extended day camp should bring a lunch, swimsuit and towel.

You will need to register your child for this “camp” option in addition to any Specialty Camp where halfday

care is needed. Please indicate which half-day Specialty Camp they are participating in during registration.

You cannot register for just Half-Day Camp Care; it must be affiliated with one of our Specialty

Camps.
