Farandole from L’Arlesienne
About L’Arlesienne
L’Arlesienne, translated as “The Girl
from Arles”, is a play written by
Alphonse Daudet. Bizet was
commissioned, or paid, to compose
the music for the play, which was
premiered on October 1, 1872 in
Paris. Bizet composed a total of 27
pieces for the play, including pieces
for voice, chorus, and small
orchestra.
Though the play was unsuccessful,
the music for the play lives on as a
two-suite arrangement for full
orchestra.
