SHAPING
THE EARTH
OF TOMORROW
Our organisation
33 Geological Survey organisations from across Europe
EuroGeoSurveys is a non-profit
organisation of the Geological Surveys
of Europe, the national institutions
responsible for geological inventory,
monitoring, knowledge and research.
EuroGeoSurveys operates on the
European scale, working with EU
institutions, industries, universities and
research centres, and developing
contacts with the public and the media.
For 40 years the main objective of
EuroGeoSurveys has been to contribute
to society’s welfare. We turn
geoscientific information into European
wide knowledge, technologies and
services easily accessible and beneficial
to society and economic growth.
Our operational strategy is based
on the cooperation between national
institutions, which enables us to
synergistically integrate both
information and activities of our member
organisations. This has allowed us to
make significant progress over the
years, permitting geology to become
a topic deserving great attention on
the European agenda.
Engaging a joint workforce of several
thousand geoscientists, also involving
regional geological surveys in
Germany, Italy and Spain, we strive
to be the first body to be contacted
when there is an international need
for European geodata, or ‘geo-help’.
Mission
Pioneering research for society’s benefit since 1971
Our principal purpose is to provide
public Earth science knowledge to
support the EU’s competitiveness, social
well-being, environmental management
and international commitments’.
In our day-to-day activities, we promote
the contribution of geosciences to
European Union affairs and action
programmes, and provide a permanent
network between the Geological
Surveys of Europe and a common,
but not unique, gateway to each of
the Members and their national
networks. We jointly address European
issues of common interest in the field
of geosciences, with the aim to
publish, or see our Members
publishing, technical advice for the
European Union Institutions.
EGS only pursues activities that lie
exclusively in the public interest or
in the interest of public administration
that will benefit from the combined
and coordinated expertise of our
members and in the direct interest
of the European Union and/or of the
European Free Trade Association.
