In the Acts of the Apostles we see the Holy Spirit at work through the entire body of Christ caring for those in need. The Holy Spirit is alive and well here at Hope Lutheran. Several months ago many people volunteered their time and offered their gifts of service in Visitation Ministry. We give thanks for their time and dedication. In addition to giving thanks, we are asking for more volunteers to step forward. As our congregation grows so does the need. Join the Visitation Ministry! Life Hurts, God Heals for Students coming to Hope Lutheran Let’s face it, sometimes LIFE HURTS and we get caught up in habits that are hard to break. If you or a student you know are dealing with pain (who isn’t?) including: addictions, eating disorders, abuse, drinking, cutting, etc., then Life Hurts, God Heals is for you. If you are familiar with 12-step programs (i.e., Alcoholics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, etc) then you understand the basic structure for Life Hurts, God Heals. This is an 8-step group targeted specifically for students in middle school through high school age, and is based on the beatitudes from the Bible. This curriculum provides lifelong tools for students dealing with unresolved hurt and pain and will start in November. Pastor Sarah Seibold At this time we’re looking for caring and compassionate adults who would like to walk with students through the 8-step program. A training workshop will be held in October. Welcome Pastor Sarah Seibold! “I am excited to have Sarah on our staff,” commented Pastor Chuck. “With Hope Lutheran’s growth there comes more needs and responsibilities. Sarah is a hard working pastor who wants to make a difference for God. We are glad to have her on board at Hope Lutheran.” “Her responsibilities include reaching out to families and kids in crisis, NDSU Ignite outreach, connecting Pastors, Etc. Hope Lutheran Welcomes New & Returning Interns William Weidenbach, Jr William Weidenbach, Jr. is an intern at St. John Lutheran Church in Arthur, ND. Pastoral ministry is a third career for him. He was a tractortrailer driver for Eastman Kodak in Rochester NY, and an accountant where he eventually had his own tax practice for fifteen years. He is currently at Luther Seminary, St. Paul, working toward a Masters of Divinity. William has two adult children, Kimberly and Joseph. He is married to Linda who recently graduated from Luther Seminary with a Masters degree in Children Youth and Family ministries. “With the help of God, during this year of internship, I will experience and develop an awareness of being loved by and loving a congregation of God’s people as Jesus loves us. It is said that the internship year is like diving into the deep end of the pool; I look forward to swimming with the members of St. John and Hope Lutheran as we swim together in God’s ministry.” HopeFest Made a Difference HopeFest reaches out to our community with a spirit of fellowship and hospitality as we entertain our mission, “to encourage all people to know the love of Christ.” At the same time we make a difference in our community. This year’s HopeFest beneficiary was Luther Hall...a place of healing and hope in Jesus’ name for kids in crisis. Thank you volunteers of Hope Lutheran. Thank you for making HopeFest a great community outreach. You are the heartbeat of HopeFest. You are the Ben Durbin, an intern from 2010-2011, will continue serving the congregations of Nordland Lutheran in Rutland and Havana- Trinity Lutheran in Havana. He leapt at the opportunity to continue serving these congregations while resuming his Ben Durbin seminary studies online. Ben grew up in Gladstone in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula where his parents still live. He received his B.A. from Luther College in Decorah, IA, in Secondary Education, English and American Studies. He has experience in Youth Encounter, worked in assisted living and held two youth ministry positions. Ben is a songwriter and an avid sports fan who roots for all teams Detroit! “The most important thing to me is that I spend my life proclaiming God’s redeeming and amazing love in Christ Jesus wherever that takes me, in whatever job or position I hold. She married Shaun in 2004, and he works as an RN for Hospice of the Red River Valley. Sarah has a B.A. in Music Education and is currently in a quintet from Detroit Lakes playing her bassoon.
