State <strong>Libraries</strong> (USA)<br />

Alabama<br />

<strong>Mission</strong> Statement:<br />

The <strong>Mission</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Alabama Public Library Service (APLS) is to promote<br />

<strong>and</strong> supp<strong>or</strong>t equitable access to library <strong>and</strong> inf<strong>or</strong>mation resources <strong>and</strong> services<br />

to enable all Alabamians to satisfy their educational, w<strong>or</strong>king, cultural, <strong>and</strong><br />

leisure-time interests. These resources <strong>and</strong> services will be provided through<br />

APLS's statewide programs <strong>and</strong> through direct grants <strong>and</strong> assistance to libraries<br />

<strong>and</strong> library systems to meet user's needs.<br />

Alaska<br />

<strong>Mission</strong> Statement:<br />

Promotes <strong>and</strong> co<strong>or</strong>dinates library services to the community <strong>of</strong> Alaskan libraries, serves<br />

as the primary research library f<strong>or</strong> state government, <strong>and</strong> collects, preserves, <strong>and</strong> makes<br />

accessible Alaska-related materials.<br />

Arizona<br />

<strong>Mission</strong> Statement:<br />

The agency serves the Arizona Legislature <strong>and</strong> Arizonans, providing public access to<br />

public inf<strong>or</strong>mation, fostering hist<strong>or</strong>ical/cultural collab<strong>or</strong>ative research, inf<strong>or</strong>mation<br />

projects <strong>and</strong> ensuring that Arizona's hist<strong>or</strong>y is documented <strong>and</strong> preserved.<br />

<strong>Vision</strong> Statement:<br />

To ensure that the Arizona legislature <strong>and</strong> Arizonans have access to the inf<strong>or</strong>mation they<br />

need today <strong>and</strong> the hist<strong>or</strong>y <strong>of</strong> Arizona f<strong>or</strong> tom<strong>or</strong>row, through partnerships with all types<br />

<strong>of</strong> cultural <strong>and</strong> public inf<strong>or</strong>mation institutions.<br />

Arkansas<br />

<strong>Mission</strong> Statement:<br />

The mission <strong>of</strong> the Arkansas State Library is to serve as the inf<strong>or</strong>mation resource center<br />

f<strong>or</strong> state agencies, legislat<strong>or</strong>s <strong>and</strong> legislative staffs, to provide guidance <strong>and</strong> supp<strong>or</strong>t f<strong>or</strong><br />

the development <strong>of</strong> local public libraries <strong>and</strong> library services, <strong>and</strong> to provide the<br />

resources, services, <strong>and</strong> leadership necessary to meet the educational, inf<strong>or</strong>mational <strong>and</strong><br />

cultural needs <strong>of</strong> the citizens <strong>of</strong> Arkansas. The agency administers state <strong>and</strong> federal funds<br />

appropriated f<strong>or</strong> libraries <strong>and</strong> library development, including State Aid To Public<br />

<strong>Libraries</strong> funds <strong>and</strong> federal Library Services <strong>and</strong> Technology Act (LSTA) funds<br />

(f<strong>or</strong>merly Library Services <strong>and</strong> Construction Act.)
