The Gertrude Fine Prints Endowment Fund was established in 2004

through the generosity of William J. Dane and named in honor of his

sister. The revenue generated by this endowment will be used to acquire

original prints for the Library’s Special Collections. Those wishing to

make a donation to this special fund may call 973-424-1832

or donate online through the Library’s website.

The Newark Public Library’s renowned collection of fine

prints was renamed the William J. Dane Fine Print Collection

in 1997. This extraordinary collection is made up of over 23,000 works in

traditional as well as innovative media. There are strong holdings of

prints by American artists including many who worked in the Garden

State, as well as international treasures including European graphics

and Japanese prints.

The Newark Public Library is proud to salute William J.

Dane, Library’s Keeper of Prints and Works of Art on

Paper, for his 60 years of outstanding service and many

contributions to the field of art librarianship.
