Dr Peter

WILSON

Loyal, dedicated and driven

PROFESSIONAL PROFILE NATIONALITY/RESIDENCY

In his current role, Dr Peter Wilson has budgetary, legal and human

resources responsibilities at the Queensland Centre for Molecular

Genetics.

A natural progression from his earlier scientific work, the role allows Dr

Wilson to contribute to developments in cancer genetics. The centre

is part of the International Cancer Genome Consortium, a worldwide

effort to obtain comprehensive data sets of genomic, transcriptomic

and epigenomic changes in 50 different types of human tumours from

25,000 individuals.

With a life motto that “challenge is good”, it is no wonder that some

of Dr Wilson’s key characteristics are his strong work ethic, drive

and dedication.

Dr Wilson suggests that his career highlight to date has been “cloning

a human gene involved in a debilitating disease”, and it is his continued

commitment to scientific advances that sees him actively mentoring

junior staff and ensuring that Australia continues to play a part in

genetic research.

Building on his earlier Bachelor of Science and PhD, Dr Wilson’s MBA

will support his future endeavours in order to achieve the goals of the

International Cancer Genome Consortium project.
