Upon arrival, each team will undergo an age control. All players must be able to present a<br />
valid passport. Please check already today that all your players have valid passports.<br />

Cash machines<br />
Cash machines (ATM) are common and they accept most major credit cards. The machines<br />
can be found in the shopping areas, main streets and at the airport.<br />
City of Gothenburg<br />
Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden with about 500 000 inhabitants. The city<br />
has a history of organizing major events like for example the World and the European<br />
Championship in Athletics, The World Championship in figure skating and of course<br />
<strong>Gothia</strong> <strong>Cup</strong>. The city of Gothenburg offers many activities, all located within walking distance.<br />
Enjoy the closeness to the ocean, the crowd at the main street Avenyn and<br />
Liseberg, the largest amusement park in Scandinavia. For more information about<br />

Climate and weather<br />
In July weather conditions in Gothenburg may vary from anything between 15 and 30 degrees<br />
Celsius (60 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit), rainy, sunny or windy. Summer clothing as<br />
well as rain proof clothes and a warmer sweater might be needed. For weather forecasts<br />

In summertime the days are long (around 18 hrs in July) and the nights are light.

In the middle of June the phone number to the school or the hotel where the team will be<br />
staying will be available on My Team Info for each team. Please use this number only in<br />
case of an emergency, as it would be impossible for the school and hotel hostesses to<br />
manage too many calls.<br />
Credit cards<br />
Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere. You can use the credit card in taxis, restaurants<br />
and shops. The chip and pin code is the common method.<br />

The official Swedish currency is the Krona (1 Swedish Krona = 100 <strong>Ö</strong>re).<br />

Sweden uses 220 V AC and 50 Hz cycle. Round European style two-pin plugs are used.<br />

Sweden is one of the countries with the highest Internet usage in the World. Central<br />
Gothenburg has a wireless Internet access. There are a number of Internet cafés around<br />
the city.<br />

The official language is Swedish, but most people in Sweden speak good English.<br />
Laundry<br />
One of our sponsors ELON will be present in Heden Center with a laundry room with over<br />
20 washing and drying machines, here you will be able to do your laundry during the tournament,<br />

You can buy meal cards for lunch and dinner at one of our centrally located schools.<br />
Meals<br />
For teams staying in a school there will be 3 meals served daily – breakfast, lunch and<br />
dinner. The first meal is dinner on Sunday, arrival day, and the last meal is lunch on Saturday,<br />
departure day. Drinks, bread, salad and fruit will be served with every meal.<br />
Money Exchange
Exchange can be done at most banks or at an exchange company. The money exchange<br />
company FOREX has several offices around Gothenburg: On Avenyn, at the central station,<br />
in Nordstan Shopping centre and at Frölunda Torg. The closest one to Heden is the<br />
office at the main street Avenyn. The best and cheapest way to exchange currency is to<br />
use ATM machines.<br />

Teams that stay in a school will be sleeping in classrooms or gymnasiums. <strong>Gothia</strong> <strong>Cup</strong><br />
staff will be on hand 24 hours a day in all schools.
Shopping<br />
Most of the stores in the shopping areas are open Monday to Sunday. The opening hours<br />

Monday to Friday: 10 am-6 pm (shopping centres until 7 or 8 pm)<br />
Saturday: 10 am-4 pm (shopping centres until 5 pm)<br />

Telephone<br />
When calling home, if you donʼt have a mobile phone, it is most convenient to buy a phone<br />
card to use in a phone booth. Phone cards can be purchased in most stores. From Sweden<br />
you dial 00 followed by the country code of the country you are calling. For mobile<br />
phones, Sweden uses the GSM system, the same system that most countries in the world<br />
use.<br />
Tipping<br />
10 % of the bill is the usual and much appreciated, but not expected tip. <br />

Upon arrival and departure for teams with accommodation in school or hotel booked<br />
through the <strong>Gothia</strong> <strong>Cup</strong>.<br />
Transportation<br />
Travelling in Gothenburg is easy with the use of local busses and trams. They cover the<br />
whole city and there is always a stop close by the schools and playing fields. All public<br />
transportation is included in the participant fee (<strong>Gothia</strong> Card). There are also our own busses<br />
– <strong>Gothia</strong> Line – that run between schools and playing fields as a complement to the<br />
public transportation system. Schedules for local trams and busses can be found at the<br />
schools or on the web site www.vasttrafik.se/en.
