Thank you to the more than 2,800 people who enjoyed a beautiful spring<br />
morning attending the 7th annual Silver Mile Health & Fitness Fair and<br />
5K Run/1-Mile Fun Walk for <strong>Education</strong> and presented by Saint Joseph<br />
Regional Medical Center on May 12. Media sponsors FOX28 and Sunny 101.5 did a<br />
fabulous job of informing the public of this fun-filled, health-focused, family day.<br />
The community event provided a fun environment for students and their families to participate<br />
in the 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk. The extensive health fair offered participants<br />
hands-on, health related activities as well as a wide array of medical screenings including<br />
body mass index, blood sugar, and blood pressure provided by Saint Joseph Regional<br />
Medical Center. The Summer Family Fitness Expo showcased 17 area businesses and<br />
organizations related to health, sports, and summer activities. Expo businesses included<br />
Urban Swirl, VALIC Financial Advisors, Gymnastics Michiana and Strikes & Spares.<br />
The Student Talent Showcase, featuring the Walt Disney Dancers, Walt Disney Recorder<br />
Crew, Elsie Rogers ROADS Dancers , Elsie Rogers Recorder Players, along with soloists<br />
McKenna Hummel and Peter Rutkowski, provided special entertainment for an enthusiastic<br />
audience.<br />
The Silent Auction had more than 70 items including full orthodontia services courtesy<br />
of Dr. Shawn R. Long, Dr. Jeff Mader’s Zoom teeth whitening, dinner with Dr. and Mrs.<br />
Jerry Thacker, Penn High School premium parking passes and University of Notre Dame<br />
football tickets, just to name a few. Mentor Me! offered students in grades 7-12 an opportunity<br />
to spend two hours job shadowing an area professional.<br />
