Preliminary note:
The figures and item numbers referred to in this Maintenance Guide are those of the Illustrated
Parts List.
1. SCANNING AND CALL
1.1 PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
To keep the facsimile machine in correct operating condition, it is recommended to perform the
following operations periodically:
- Clean the paper drive system (white roller, load roller, paper separation pad assembly).
- Clean the console and cover keys.
- Service the printer (refer to paragraph 2: PRINTER).
1.2 CALL FAILURE CODES AND SOFTWARE TOOLS
1.2.1 Call failure codes
Call failure codes appear in transmission logs and reports.
Code 01 - Subscriber has not answered
This code appears after 5 unsuccessful attempts. You should start transmission later on.
Code 03 - User break
Transmission interruption decided by the operator, by pressing stop.
Code 04 - Non-programmed number
One touch or abbreviated number invalid: check.
Example: a deferred transmission was programmed with a one touch key, but that key has since
been cancelled.
Code 05 - Scanning fault
A failure has occurred at the location of the document to be transmitted: e.g.: sheet of paper
jammed.
Code 06 - Printing fault
Same as code 05 but in reception.
Code 07 - Subscriber has disconnected
The line is broken (bad connection). Also check the number.
- 11 - TD/MG 23227530-1
Code 08 - Quality
The document you transmitted was not correctly received; contact called party to see if it is
necessary to retransmit your document. The fault may have happened in a non-useful part of
the document.
Code 0A - No document to be polled
You tried to poll a document from a party who had not yet prepared the document (no document
deposited).
Code 0B - Wrong number of pages
Difference between the number of pages specified during preparation of transmission and the
number of pages actually transmitted. Check the number of pages in the document.
Code 13 - Memory full
Your fax machine can no longer receive because the memory is full: there are too many
documents received unprinted, or too many documents awaiting transmission. Print the
received documents and delete or immediately transmit documents awaiting transmission.
Check the following points:
- 24 -
TD/MG 23227530-1
- The mains voltage should be compatible with the indications on the fax machine
power pack.
- The ambient temperature should be between 5°C and 35°C.
- The ambient air relative humidity should be between 35% and 85%, and
condensation-free.
- The fax machine should be placed on a horizontal plane.
- The fax machine should not be installed near a source of heat nor exposed to direct
sunlight.
- The fax machine must not be installed in a dusty area.
- The fax machine must not be installed in an area where there may be splashes or
fluids.
- Check that there is no dirt or traces of humidity or condensation visible inside the
printer.
TD/MG 23227530-1
2.3.3 Print quality defective: print attenuated, illegible, blurred, stained, irregular
printing density
- Check that the characteristics of the paper used correspond to the fax machine utilization
specifications.
- If the problem persists, confirm the fault using paper of another brand or quality.
- Check that the paper does not have a special coating.
- Run a print test on the other surface of the paper (turning over the block of pages).
2.3.4 Paper jam
Paper jams can have three causes (see paper jamming types hereafter):
• The printer has not loaded the page correctly because the paper was incorrectly positioned.
• The printer has not been able to eject a file which has remained jammed in the printer
mechanism.
• A page is jammed during printing or subsequent to a mains failure.
PAPER JAMMING TYPES
Jamming occurs during an error statement:
• Cover opened, if we try to close it, there is some paper already under the sensor.
• Power-up the machine with paper already under the sensor.
The unjamming procedure is as follows:
• Remove the ream of paper from the printer loader.
• Open the printer cover.
• Check that there is no page jammed in the print mechanism. If a page is jammed at this point,
try to extract it gently.
• Run a print test to check whether the fault has disappeared.
2.4 TESTS-ADJUSTMENTS
2.4.1 Print quality check
- From a «standard facsimile machine», transmit a fax of the test pattern (CCITT sheet No. 1)
to check print quality.
- If received copy quality is defective, make a local copy of the test pattern.
- If the result is incorrect in both cases, refer to the fault-finding chart.
