Riders must wear a complete leather suit’ of one piece, with a recommended
minimum thickness: 1,2 mm and with additional leather padding or other protection
on the principal contact points, knees, elbows, shoulders, hips, etc.
Sections of the leather suit not directly subject to ‘crash’ damage may use a small
limited area or strip made of a material which have the same protective properties
as leather (see Art. 65.07 in the General Section).
Linings or undergarments must not be made of a synthetic material which might
melt and cause damage to the riders’ skin.
Riders must also wear leather gloves and boots, which with the suit provides
complete coverage from the neck down.
The use of a back protector is highly recommended.
65.07 Material equivalent to leather

65.08 Approval
FMNs (National Motorcycling Federations) which approve protective clothing
must present the certificate of a testing institute to the FIM for their records. The
suits must carry an FMN) approval mark, only if required by the FMN.
