PRINCIPAL INSTRUCTOR
John Dunkle, P.E., CPESC, CMS4S
John has been a practicing civil engineer since 1981, and is
a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control
(CPESC), and a Certified Municipal Separate Storm Sewer
System Specialist (CMS4S). Working with both private
developers and municipalities on site planning and
development projects, John has prepared and reviewed
Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP’s), provided guidance for
Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4’s), participated with DEC
in the development of the current stormwater regulations, and conducted
stormwater trainings for contractors, developers, engineers, and municipal
officials. John also teaches a graduate level Stormwater Management class
at SUNY-Environmental Science & Forestry, and has been conducting
stormwater trainings across NY State for over 7 years.

WORKSHOP FEES
All workshops are one-day sessions with a fee of $230 per session.
A reduced fee of $100 will be charged for members of the Stormwater
Coalition of Monroe County for each session. A 10% discount will be given
to each person registering for all five core courses. Fees include handouts
distributed in class, refreshments, and lunch.
Workshops may require the use of the NYS Stormwater Management
Design Manual and/or the NYS Standards and Specifications for Erosion
& Sediment Control. You may download them for free from the NYS-DEC
website (www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/8694.html) or order them hardcopy
for a fee through the Empire State Chapter Soil & Water Conservation

What You Will Learn

A comprehensive class that explores
the fundamental elements of
stormwater analysis and design in
New York State.
Designing & integration of GI
techniques in development. This
class will utilize the new NYS-DEC
Notice of Intent (NOI) form, and the
new NYS-DEC spreadsheet for
computing Runoff Reduction volume
(RRv). NYS-DEC representatives will
be on site for Q&A.
A follow-up to last year’s
introduction to linear project’s.
Design techniques and practices
applicable for achieving permit
compliance for E&S control, peak
flow mitigation, pollutant removal,
and runoff reduction on confined site
conditions will be covered.
Permit requirements and available
GI practices for stormwater
management on previously
developed sites. Project design
exercises will be completed during
class.
Issues that influence private and
public sector development, including
natural, economic, political,
regulatory, sociological,
philosophical, and even
psychological factors.
