Fauquier County is considered a part of the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Statistical Area. This is due in part to the commuting patterns of the labor force that resides in Fauquier County. Data from Census 2000 tells us that over 58% of the workforce commuted outside of the County for employment. The majority of the workforce (56%) commuted outside the County to other places located within the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Statistical Area. The top ten places of work for Fauquier residents in 2000 are identified in the chart. While this data is dated to the year 2000, Fauquier County is continuing to become home to a growing number of workers who commute to places located within the greater Washington D.C. area for employment.
