B. Facility Standards /

B. Facility Standards / Level of Service The following capacity standards are currently applied for Fauquier County School facilities: SCHOOL TYPE DESIGN CAPACITY High Schools 1,200 students Middle Schools 700 students Elementary Schools 600 students GRADE LEVEL CLASS SIZE K – 2 21 students 3 – 12 25 students 6 – 12 English 24 students 9 – 12 Science 24 students Special Education 10 students Elementary schools currently house grades K-5, middle schools grades 6-8 and high schools grades 9-12. In their facilities and programmatic planning, the Schools are currently exploring possible adjustment to this allocation, such as an elementary program for grades K-6 and a middle/junior high program for grades 7-8. In planning for new facilities, the School Board’s desire is for new schools to open when the enrollment in the area reaches 95% capacity. In southern Fauquier, several of the elementary schools are close to their maximum capacity, including Grade Miller ES in Bealeton at 92%, M.M. Pierce in Remington at 96% and Mary Walter ES in Bealeton at 87%. A Plan for Public Facilities December 2009 Page 56
