FAUQUIER COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES September 8, 2011 REGULAR PUBLIC MEETING Board Members Barbara Severin, Scott District, Chairman Jack Whiting, Marshall District, Secretary Pat White, Cedar Run District Ann Martella, Center District, Vice-Chairman Staff Lawrie Parker, Lee District Maria Del Rosso, Library Director Terri Ludwick-Garonzik, Administrative Specialist Linda Yowell, Support Services Manager Dawn Sowers, Public Services Manager CALL TO ORDER Mrs. Severin called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm. ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA The Board adopted the agenda by consensus after agreeing to move an e-book overview to after the status report. PUBLIC COMMENT No members of the public were present. MINUTES The Board adopted the 30 June 2011 Work Session minutes by consensus. The Board adopted the 20 July 2011 meeting minutes by consensus. APPROVAL OF PURCHASE ORDERS AND BILLS Mrs. Severin was pleased to note that the Bealeton-Remington Ruritan Club recently donated $100 to the Bealeton library. The Board approved by consensus the bills and purchase orders as presented. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORT Mrs. Sowers noted that nearly 1,590 children and teens read 33,476 books during the 8-week summer reading programs. The number of books read exceeded the library goal of 30,000. The Board congratulated library staff for a successful summer reading program. Mrs. Del Rosso reported that the Friends of the Library purchased discounted furniture and fixtures for the library from the Warrenton Borders store. The store closed in September. Mrs. Del Rosso spoke about a request from the county’s Department of Human Resources to use the John Barton Payne Building for a weekly exercise program for employees. The Board agreed to take up the request at its October meeting. CONSENT AGENDA The Board approved the consent agenda by consensus. NEW BUSINESS Election of Library Board Officers 2011-2012 The ad hoc nominating committee presented the following slate of officers for 2011-2012: Chairman Barbara Severin Secretary/Treasurer Ann Martella Vice-Chairman Lawrie Parker There were no nominations from the floor. The Board approved the slate of officers by consensus. Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) FY ‘13 – ‘18 Mrs. Del Rosso reported that projects must be submitted by September 30 to be included in the county’s FY ’13-’18 CIP. The Board authorized Mrs. Del Rosso to submit the library’s facility plan by the county deadline. Mrs. White urged Mrs. Del Rosso to consult multiple sources to determine current population figures in Fauquier County.
