Its mission is to encourage, support and provide options to people with disabilities. IEC helps people to gain access to appropriate community services, exercise their civil rights, participate in all aspects of society and advocate their value to society. Like the other 15 Centers for Independent Living throughout Virginia, IEC offers four core services: Information and referral, advocacy (individual and systemic), peer counseling, and independent living skills training. In addition, IEC facilitates the Medicaid Elderly or Disabled Consumer Directed Medicaid Waiver and is a transition coordination agency for Virginia’s Money Follows the Person Program, which brings people out of nursing homes to live independently in the community. Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) The Advisory Committee consists of parents of students with different abilities, members of civic organ izations, members of the business community, public and private organizations concerned with the care, education and training of individuals with differing abilities in Fauquier County Public Schools. Nominations for interested members occur in the fall of each year. All citizens are invited to join this vital committee. SEAC works cooperatively with the Office of Special Education to identify ways to make local special educational programs as effective as possible for students with differing abilities. Parent Resource Center 540-422-7116 Central Complex Building A – 430 East Shirley Avenue Warrenton, VA 20186 The Parent Resource Center is a place for parents to get connected with information and support. Because of limited resources, the focus of the PRC is support to families of children with differing abilities; however, all parents are welcome at the PRC. We have a lending library and hold informational workshops and assist resource and support groups. Our workshops are open to the public. A Parent Coordinator is on staff to help refer people to a variety of information and resources. The PRC is open weekly for a limited number of hours and only when schools are in session.
