Quality is the aim of SAPAG
Industrial Valves: a firm which has
proved its efficiency all over the
world.
The JHP butterfly valve takes advantage
of this experience.
It’s design and quality of construction
ensure A VALVE OF THE
HIGHEST PERFORMANCE, for
example:
• The double offset design avoids
wear and the optimized design
allows a very low seating torque,
• the JHP has a very good flow
capacity value due to the well
researched form of the disc,
• the mounting plate is standardised
according to ISO 5211 to
adapt any type of actuator without
any intermediate component.
Applications
JHP
The seat is made of filled PTFE in order
to minimize plastic flow effects at high
temperatures.
The combined action of seat geometry
and the elastic insert guarantees a long
lasting bidirectional shuttoff.
JHP FS
or Fire Safe
This valve has been designed to satisfy
all fire test standards.
In the event of fire, a metallic ring, in
stainless material, takes over from the
PTFE seat.
High performances
The ultimate design
1. Pressure on same side of stem 2. Pressure on opposite side of stem
In this case, the closing action of disc
combined with slight trim deformation
leads to compression of PTFE seat between
disc and metallic insert.
Subsequently, the seat takes support
from the retaining ring, while the energized
insert delivers a sealing pressure
between disc and seat.
The fluid flowing behind the seat
increases the sealing effect. In fact, the
JHP seat offers real dynamic in both
directions.
This bidirectional upstream/downstream
tightness is maintained
throughout the full rated pressure
range.
With fire, the excessive heat will destroy
the PTFE seat (A) and will then be replaced
by the metallic ring (B) which will
provide a bidirectional back-up seal,
limiting leakage to meet accepted standards.
The JHP Fire Safe valves
are in accordance
with API 607/BS 6755 part 2
Standardised mounting plate:
No leakage
1
Seat
Leak tightness is unaffected by seat
creep as the seat can move radially in
its slot.
2
Bottom end cover
ensuring lower stem tightness by
the cover’s static seal in expanded
graphite.
3
Packing system
The perfect internal tightness is obtained
by a conventional packing system in
expanded graphite.
The excellent temperature stability
allows excellent static and dynamic
tightness.
The bearings avoid any deterioration of
shaft at the packing level.
Easy accessible
4
Standardised mounting plate
The integrally cast plate is in accordance
with ISO 5211.
The actuator can be directly mounted to
it.
5
Twin column construction
allows easy access to the packing system
without removing actuator.
6
Extended neck
for easy insulation.
Especially designed for isolated pipes, it
allows insulation – flanges included –
with easy access to the packing system.
7
Centering flange
bolt locator allowing precise centering
of the valve on the pipe.
8
Retaining ring
with screws outside of flange sealing
zone.
Perfect guiding
9
Bearings
Double corrosion resistant bearings on
upper and lower stem.
Providing low friction coefficient, high
load capacity and perfect guiding of the
stem.
10
Disc locating shoulder
Shrunt on during assembly, it retains its
position for the life of the valve and prevents
displacement of disc in relation to
the seat while in service.
11 Travel stop position indicator
located at the mounting plate level:
• The travel stop is set during assembly
at 90° disc angle in order to avoid any
deterioration of seat due to over-rotation
of disc.
• The travel stop contact against the
mounting plate, taking away all
stresses from the trim when overtorque
occurs.
• When actuator has been removed
and valve is in service, the position of
the disc is clearly shown.
The ultimate design
12
Disc to stem pinning
which allows accurate connection
without any angular rotation between
disc and stem.
Optimized design
13
Disc
With a computer optimized disc profile,
the double offset design eliminates most
disc/seat contact during opening.
The results are:
• no wear and low closing torque,
• a wide open section resulting in a
low headloss and a very high flow
capacity value.
The disc edge has a geometry which:
• facilitates the connection between
disc and seat during valve closure,
• seat tightness guaranteed through
wide area of contact.
The double-offset design guarantees:
• the elimination of most disc/seat
contact,
• a permanent alignment of disc and
seat.
flange dimensions
1. Be sure you have a sufficient space
between flanges and pipe. The edges
must be perfectly aligned, parallel.
2. Be sure that the valve is closed.
3. Center the valve by bolting the four
locators first.
4. Progressively tighten diametrically
opposed bolts by alternating sides until
contact has been made between the
body and the flange faces.
5. Control after mounting: operate the
valve from fully open position to fully
closed position to make sure that
nothing is obstructing the disc.
Butterfly valve JHP
Maintenance: packing replacement
1. Set replacement
1. Remove valve from line (closed disc).
2. Remove retaining ring (item ).
3. Extract used seat (item ).
4. Gently clean:
• disc circle (item );
• seat compartment.
5. Put new seat in position (still closed
disc).
6. Rescrew retaining ring.
7. Reset valve between flanges and wait
15 minutes (except “PP”) before any
operation.
8. Valve is now ready.
2. Packing replacement
The operation can be done directly on the
valve:
• without removing it from line;
• without removing actuator.
Procedure
1. Unscrew gland follower (item ) and
lift packing gland (item ).
2. Extract packing rings (item ) with
tool.
3. Clean upper stem (item ) and
packing space.
4. Refill packing rings.
5. Reset gland follower and packing
gland.
6. Adjust packing compression to avoid
leakage.
