Programme - National Federation of Voluntary

“The Decision is mine but you Thursday 7th June 2012 Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise 10.00am – 4.30pm The National Federation of Voluntary Bodies invites you to the 9th in the series of their Sharing Innovative Learning Seminars (SIL) entitled: “The Decision is mine but you can support me” This SIL event will give the opportunity to explore the continuum of supporting decision making from effective listening to the person to developing a range of strategies to support decision making, to for‐ mal decision making including circles of support. The current policy direction as set out in the Disability Policy Review, Time to Move on from Congregated Settings; A Strategy for Community Inclusion Report and New Directions Personal Support Services for Adults with Disabilities Report clearly places the focus on individualised supports driven by the choices of each person. Supporting decision making will be central in this policy direction. The legal capacity legislation is expected shortly which it is hoped will support a continuum of supported decision making. Who should attend this event? can support me” This event is aimed at people supported by organisations, their fami‐ lies, front line staff, managers, CEO’s, researchers and anyone who is supporting people with intellectual disabilities.
