DRIDOWN - Simply put, DriDown represents the evolution of down insulation. That enables the down to stay dry 

longer, loft better, and dry faster than regular down, keeping you warmer in any environment. New for 2013 we’ve expanded our

WHY CLIMB? 

I’ve always had this crazy feeling about wilderness and faraway places. Mountains and cold. Even when I was a kid – when we wore jeans 

and cotton t-shirts and all we had was our back yard or some little weekend trip. Adventure was calling and I wanted to go. So I went and I 

never really stopped to ask any questions. 

But later? On some mountain, during those low moments – you know the times - when you’re cold, tired, hungry and scared and the summit 

seems like an impossible distance away. Then that question, the one I never cared about, comes back to haunt me: Why climb? Life is hard 

enough why do I keep making it harder? 

To climb is to move toward an uncertain outcome. It involves, at times, physical discomfort and risk as well as mental stress and strain. To 

be a successful climber requires setting goals as well as learning and refining skills. Practice. Long hours of training. Discipline. Along the 

way, you have to work as a team to overcome obstacles and avoid danger. Deep friendships are born from shared experience. Sure, there 

are moments of pure agony but they are countered by instants of pure joy - an incredible sunrise, a daring move, a new perspective… and 

perhaps it is those small things that keep me coming back. 

Or perhaps it is something more. Walking, climbing, riding a bike... At some point, these things cease to be questions and simply become

Let’s face it, a tent sometimes needs to be more than just shelter for sleeping. As our outdoor activities continue to grow and expand, so should our gear and today’s 

tents need to combine a wide variety of features to better serve that fun-filled base camp lifestyle – a shady place to relax, shelter from the rain, protection from the 

wind, repair a bike, cook, visit with friends and more. Therefore, we designed the Mirage, Sierra Designs ultimate adventure base camp tent – the perfect oasis for 

next multi sport outing. 

Carefully constructed, this easy to set up tent provides ample room for, well, just about anything that you might want a tent for. A huge vestibule provides a well 

ventilated space loaded with doors and windows so you can have just the right amount of shelter or sun. Screens keep out the bugs and a covertable sleeping area 

means that you can easily expand the internal area to accommodate addition guests or gear. Light colored fabric keeps the tent cool even during the heat of the day. 

The rollable fly means you can have block out the sun during the day and star gaze at night. 

We may call this tent the Mirage but it’s no optical illusion.

REVOLUTIONIZING DOWN INSULATION 

Simply put, DriDown represents the evolution of down insulation. 

Regular down is treated with a molecular level polymer to create 

a hydrophobic finish on each individual down plume. This finish 

allows DriDown to stay dry longer, loft better, and dry faster 

than untreated down, keeping you warmer in any environment. 

ENVIRONMENTAL EXAMPLE 

In an 80% relative humidity environment, an untreated 15-degree 

down sleeping bag loses up to 30% of its loft over a period of eight 

hours. A 30% loss of loft essentially turns a 15-degree sleeping 

bag into a 30-degree sleeping bag. Our DriDown(tm) sleeping 

bags avoid this loss of thermal efficiency by retaining 98% of their 

loft, keeping you warmer all night long on both short and extended 

trips into the backcountry.

EN (EUROPEAN NORM) 13537 IS A STANDARDIZED, 

SCIENTIFIC TEST METHOD FOR IDENTIFYING THE 

TEMPERATURE RATING OF A SLEEPING BAG. 

At the most basic level, the EN Test helps us understand how much insulation is required to keep a person 

warm and comfortable through the night. 

The EN test enables us to confirm what temperature an average man will sleep comfortably, and what temperature 

an average woman will sleep comfortably in the tested bags. 

Moving into 2013, Sierra Designs will continue to be an advocate for sleeping bags that address the different 

ways men and women sleep. We offer authentic construction and efficient functionality to assure an overall 

comfortable sleep experience for all of our customers. 

We understand, and the EN test verifies, that women sleep colder than men (in the same conditions), so part 

of our commitment includes a women’s assortment specifically designed with more insulation, so that women 

can sleep warm and cozy at the temperature the bag is rated for. With our re-designed Women’s sleeping 

bags, you can trust that you’ll sleep comfortably at 15 degrees, if that’s what the bag is rated.
