Council is required by the
Local Government Act
1989 to make various
documents and policies
available for public
inspection. This includes
Council agendas and
minutes, planning
schemes, local laws,
pecuniary interest register,
town planning register,
annual reports, corporate
plan, yearly financial
statements and Council
budgets. This obligation
rests comfortably with
Council’s stated objectives
of transparent and
accountable governance
and leadership.
STATUTORY INFORMATION
The public may view or copy any of
these documents at the Council
website www.gannawarra.vic.gov.au
or at the main office of Gannawarra
Shire Council located at Patchell Plaza,
47 Victoria Street, Kerang.
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION
The Freedom of Information Act 1982
provides the public the right to gain
access to Council documents not
exempt from the Act. Limited
exemptions do exist for the protection
of the public interest and the private
and business affairs of persons from
whom information is collected by
Council.
The Freedom of Information Act 1982
gives:
√ The right to access documents
about your personal affairs and the
activities of government agencies
√ The right to request that incorrect
or misleading information held by
an agency about you be amended
or removed.
All formal requests for information
under the Act must be made in
writing.
There were no requests to Council in
2010/2011 under the Act.
Documents available for inspection
upon request
Council makes available for inspection
the following documents upon
request by any member of the public
in accordance with the Local
Government Act 1989:
a) Details of current allowances fixed
for the Mayor and Councillors
under Section 74 or 74A of the Act
b) Details of senior officers’ total
salary packages for the current
financial year and two previous
years including gross salary,
employer superannuation
contributions, the value of any
motor vehicle provided by Council
and the total value of any other
benefits or allowances provided by
Council
c) Details of overseas or interstate
travel (with the exception of
interstate travel by land for less
than three days) undertaken in an
official capacity by Councillors or
any member of Council staff in the
previous 12 months, including the
names of Councillors or members
of Council staff and the date,
destination, purpose and total cost
of the overseas or interstate travel
d) Names of Council officers who
were required to submit a return
of interest during the financial year
and the dates the returns were
submitted
e) Names of Councillors who
submitted returns of interest
during the financial year and the
dates the returns were submitted
f) Agendas for and minutes of
ordinary and special meetings
held in the previous 12 months
kept under Section 93 of the Act,
except if the minutes relate to
parts of meetings which have
been closed to members of the
public under Section 89 of the Act
g) A list of all special committees
established by Council and the
purpose of each committee
h) A list of all special Council
committees which were abolished
or ceased to function during the
financial year
i) Minutes of meetings of special
committees established under
Section 86 of the Act and held in
the previous 12 months, except if
the minutes relate to parts of
meetings which have been closed
to members of the public under
Section 89 of the Act
