207. The Murder of the Rev. C.S. volkner in New
Zealand. Octavo, cover title, leading CMS missionary Octavius
Hadfield’s copy with his signature on cover & corrections to Maori
names in text including Kereopa’s. London Church Missionary
House, 1865. An extremely rare association item. The most
difficult crisis faced by Hadfield was in 1865 after Volkner’s
murder when a strong Hau Hau deputation visited Waikanae
and endeavoured to persuade the local tribes to join the
