A rare and important work giving the Maori history of lands
where ownership was in dispute. Fenton’s Orakei judgement

Strong sympathy for the Maori and their treatment by the
Government and settlers. The outcome was the Bryce v Rusden
libel case.

Commision. No imprint, tipped in is a rare printed invitation “To
Our Pakeha Friends Greeting” on behalf of the Maori Committee,
Tribes, Hapus and Families of Wairarapa addressed in manuscript
to S Percy Smith Surveyor General to a social gathering on
at “Pigeons Bush on Saturday 18 January 1896”, Johannes
Anderson’s copy, all bound as one, leather backed boards and two
other pamphlets re the Horowhenua Block. Hocken 495. This
infamously complex case involved differences between two
tribes over land ownership and a certain conflict of interest on
Buller’s part.

about 1875; Covers most but not all of the official Crown
purchases. Of great value many of the deeds included have been
lost while those that survive reflect later negotiations. Bagnall
