Captain Vickers was severely reprimanded for his mishandling of the ship, the Court finding
that he did not make allowance for leeway in a southerly swell, neglected to take soundings
and was not sufficiently prompt in putting his ship about. The rescue attempts were also
criticised: only part of the rocket outfit had reached the site in the fading daylight and two or
three boats which were notified of the wreck failed to reach it in time.
Much looting occurred of cargo that washed ashore particularly of the spirits, sailcloth, toys and
tobacco. Some coiled plain fencing wire was salvaged from the wreck in 1894. Today
hundreds of these coils, encrusted and solidified, are strewn over the site and the hull is broken
apart, but the vessel's iron ribs-can be seen, with some of the cargo of concrete and pig iron.
The scene of the wreck is marked by an anchor, erected by Warrnamboo1 skin divers in 1967.
