while co-host Randy Roberts “drags” dancers
through the Green Room Toni Basil, “Legacy” Perez,

PALM SPRINGS, CA, KMIR-6 anchorman Gino Lamont knows
he’ll have to be on his toes as host of Dancing with the Desert Stars
on Friday, November 22 at the Renaissance Palm Springs, to benefit
the 100 Women program at Desert AIDS Project. His co-host,
drag performer Randy Roberts, will be on his toes as well … but
he’ll have the benefit of those stilettos he wears so well!
Regardless of either one’s footwear, Randy will be backstage
chatting up the nervous dance competitors for all to see on video
monitors in the ballroom. That’s where Gino will be, introducing the
dancers to a panel of judges who each know a thing or two about
tearing up a dance floor.
Although she has had a long career as a dancer, choreographer and
actor, working on TV shows like “Hullabaloo” and hit films like HALF “Easy PAGE HORIZONTAL AD
Rider” and “American Graffiti,” Toni Basil is probably most well-known www.desertaidsproject.org/go/dwds or by calling JP
Allen
for the massive hit “Mickey” in 1982. Her video for that song was 9.625 at X 760-969-5743. 7.98

competition. Basil appeared in the video wearing her uniform from
her head varsity cheerleader days at Las Vegas High School.
Known for his inspired freestyle, versatility, drive, and willingness
to tackle all styles of dance, Jonathan “Legacy” Perez is one of the
most sought after dancers in entertainment today. Attracting the
attention of the industry’s top directors, choreographers, and artists,
he has appeared in 2011’s “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never”
and more than a dozen more films and TV shows. A finalist and fan
favorite on the hit TV show “So You Think You Can Dance,” Perez
has danced on-stage behind performers including Rihanna, Toni
Braxton, The Black-Eyed Peas, and others.
Rounding out the Dancing with the Desert Stars judging panel is
British-born heartthrob Aiden Turner who appeared in the 10th season
of the ABC-TV smash “Dancing with the Stars” with dance partner
Edyta Sliwinska. His early TV roles included the MTV teen soap
“Undressed” and the British hits “East Enders” and “Crossroads.”
American audiences will know him best for playing Aidan Devane
on the long-running soap “All My Children,” a role that earned him a
Daytime Emmy Award nomination and being ranked in TV Guide’s
“Soap’s Sexiest Men” countdown in 2008.
Save the date – Friday, November 22 – and get your tickets now for
this magical evening of fun, friendship, and fundraising to benefit

Make sure to join the fun at the Renaissance Palm
Springs, beginning with cocktails at 6:00 PM while
your favorite warms-up for the competition at 7:30 on

“Standing on Ceremony - The Gay Plays”
Returns to the Annenberg Theater during Palm Springs
PrideWeekend
The theatrical highlight of Palm Springs’ Gay Pride Weekend takes place
Friday and Saturday evening, November 1 and 2, at the Annenberg Theater.
Standing on Ceremony is a series of nine short plays by some of our
nation’s finest playwrights. Previously produced in Los Angeles and New
York, the show debuted in Palm Springs last year to rave reviews. The
show and the entire cast from that production are nominated for Desert
Theater League awards.
With most of the 2012 cast returning, the show is now coming back for
two more memorable performances. Standing on Ceremony beautifully
balances the hilarity of same-sex nuptials and relationship negotiations
with some of the more sobering aspects of the long struggle for LGBT civil
rights. Those in attendance last year gave the show standing ovations, with
several audience members commenting that it was “the best night I ever
spent in the theater in Palm Springs.”
Cast members include the talented vocalist and actress, Mona Caywood,
as well as local luminaires on the desert cabaret scene, Jerome Elliott,
Francesca Amari, and Charles Herrera. The award-winning actress
Jeanette Knight and actor/author Robert Julian complete the six-person
ensemble. Robert is the author of Postcards from Palm Springs and star of
the Canadian reality television series, Golden Gays.
Tickets can be purchased at the Palm Springs Art Musuem’s Annenberg
Theater box office (760) 325-4490 or via the website: www.AnnenbergTheater.org.
(Note: Standing on Ceremony contains adult content not suitable
for a pre-teen audience.)
Cazwell’s New Single Is a Snapshot at
America’s Obsession with the Selfie
New York, NY – It has gotten so that a teenager cannot simply go to
a concert without holding his or her iPhone in front of their face and
impersonating a duck. America has gone crazy for the selfie, with teens,
celebrities, and even the Oxford English Dictionary embracing the
cellphone self-portrait. The motive is almost always the same: to let the
world know where one is, what they’re doing, and how good they look. It’s
the newest form of narcissism, and Cazwell’s latest hip hop dance track,
‘No Selfie Control’, is capitalizing on the craze with hilariously catchy lyrics
set against a minimalist retro-funk track and smooth playa beat. Says the
rapper, “‘No Selfie Control’ is a heartfelt track that was written for everyone
on Instagram that is in love...with themselves.” ‘No Selfie Control’ releases
October 15th from Peace Bisquit.
People have been taking photos of themselves and sharing them with friends,
family and strangers on the web for years. Yet it wasn’t until 2012 that a name for
these self-portraits, often snapped at odd angles with smartphones and distributed
via social media or texts, really hit the big time.
“It reflects our ever-growing need to be viewed as popular and attractive,” asserts
Cazwell, a Massachusetts native; himself, a product of the internet age. He became
a Youtube sensation after a million people in a single week viewed his ‘Ice Cream
Truck’ music video. He has since earned hipster credibility with a steady flow of
danceable hip hop tracks − including ‘Rice & Beans’ and ‘I Seen Beyoncé At Burger
King’ − that impressively showcase his hypomanic take on pop culture. Cazwell
has been described as “what would have happened if Eminem had grown up on
Madonna’s front lawn.”
‘No Selfie Control’ is his first collaboration with up-and-coming Viennese
producer Dizzy Bell. In it, Cazwell sings, “If you could see me like I do, you’d be
in love with me too.” Though meant to be funny, it’s an accurate reflection of a
generation that has become obsessed with attracting the spotlight. No attention
is bad attention, except for, well, no attention. One of the main ways to attract
followers, especially among males, is wearing minimal clothing that shows off an
impressive physique.
Even Cazwell flashes his bod in the song’s music video, directed by Athena
Maroulis. He doesn’t deny that it’s done to get more people to view his video. It’s
even why he brought in Maroulis to direct. “I worked with her before on my Here-TV
‘Boombox’ show and on my ‘Rice and Beans’ video (directed by Marco Ovando). I
knew she understood the sex/comedy approach I wanted to take for this song.”
“No Selfie Control” is the fourth single release from Cazwell’s soon-to-be-released
Hard 2 B Fresh album. Club/Play hit “Guess What?”, Cazwell’s gnarly, horn-ridden
electro collaboration with British pop star Luciana. It’s intentionally a very different
sound from the first single.
“Remaining fresh takes effort,” explains Cazwell. “I’m exploring new sounds. It’s
about making sure every song is unique.”
He also aims to tackle subjects that speak to today’s culture but haven’t yet been
addressed in popular music. Like selfies.
“Even if you don’t do selfies, chances are your friends do them, or your friend’s
friends do them,” says Cazwell. “But more likely than not, you do them too.”

GINNY FOAT
PALM SPRINGS
CITY COUNCIL
I have worked hard to keep the promises I made to you when
I ran for office and now we need to plan for the future.
DOWNTOWN: Continue the reconstruction, reinvention and
revitalization of downtown with minimal impact to and much support for existing
businesses. Re-design our traffic patterns offering optimal visibility for businesses
and ample parking for patrons. Continue to promote innovative ideas that increase
our ever-expanding tourism base, assuring a year round economy and a healthy
year round business atmosphere.
ECONOMY: Continue to retain our businesses through investment
programs such as hotel renovation, façade improvement plans and interior redesign
programs. Recruit new “green” businesses to create jobs for the 21st century through
the expanded use and promotion of the I-Hub. Expand and continue to diversify our
economy by active involvement in our redevelopment efforts; continue to strengthen
our financial reserves through my active involvement in budgeting, financial
oversight and innovative revenue generating programs such as those we created for
the film and airline industries. I will continue to work closely with corporations and
individuals interested in investing in Palm Springs.
Keep Palm Springs
Moving Forward
OUR NEIGHBORHOODS
and QUALITY OF LIFE: Continue to open doors for citizen
involvement through the Palm Springs Neighborhood Involvement Committee and
our Boards and Commissions. Assure that neighborhoods are receiving the support
they need from Measure J funds. As tourism increases I will work to make sure our
quality of life is preserved and our public safety personnel have the resources to
keep us safe. That will include overseeing strict adherence to the Vacation Rental
and Event House Ordinance and funding neighborhood policing efforts. I will work
to develop new parks including the Tahquitz Creek Master Plan and other
opportunities for pocket parks throughout our city.
SUSTAINABILITY: I will work to ensure that bike lanes are included
when our streets are repaved, that drought tolerant landscaping is implemented
whenever possible using water runoff or storm water and that the City takes
advantage of solar power at every opportunity. I will continue to work on
preserving open space and supporting the conversion of the Chino Cone to public
lands. I will continue to preserve and promote our mid-century modern history
and all other preservation efforts.
MAJOR PROJECTS: Through my advocacy and with my leadership,
we can be proud of our new and well-run homeless shelter for our less fortunate
neighbors and the City’s new shelter for homeless pets. I will focus on ensuring
that current services are secure and well-funded while working toward providing
even more services at these two state-of-the-art facilities. I will also continue to
work though my position on the Riverside County Transportation Commission and
the CVAG Transportation Committee to advocate for daily rail service to the
Coachella Valley.
I would be honored with your vote for City Council.

Michael Fiacco & Archangel Gallery
Art for Sinners and Saints
Michael, the Archangel, appears in Christian, Jewish and Islamic
teachings. He played a role in Milton’s Paradise Lost. Michael is depicted as
a warrior with a shield bearing the banner Quis ut Deus.
Michael Fiacco of ARCHANGEL GALLERY may not be driving Satan to
Hell and may not be posing the question “Who is like God?” but he is part
of the art renaissance of Palm Spring ‘s Uptown Design District. The
Gallery had its origins in Seattle 2010 as the Archangel Art Collective. The
seductive allure of Palm Springs was too great even for this Archangel. Both
gallery and founder moved to the Coachella Valley. “The area, particularly
Palm Springs, just felt right, especially Uptown. The area is thriving, vibrant,
contemporary and relevant. I could not imagine a better place to relocate
Archangel Gallery”, said Michael.
Michael’s own journey to gallerist involved stops as a fashion designer,
interior designer, fabric director, VP of sourcing for London Fog ® and
creator of Liber-Tees Progress Fashions. Liber-Tee is a line of “leftist”
t-shirts with a portion of sales going to support the Human Rights
Campaign.

By Angela Romeo
Philanthropy is very much of Michael Fiacco’s makeup. Michael is also a
supporter of Arts Corp., a non-profit education foundation for children. A
portion of Archangel sales and gallery events are dedicated to Arts Corp.
Michael also supports the PRIDE Foundation’s scholarship fund.
But art is paramount to Michael. “I want Archangel to be in the forefront of
contemporary art. This year the gallery will continue to feature local artists,
both Bret Philpot and Charlie Ciali have an opening in November, as
well as contemporary artists from outside the area. For example, Miguel
Edwards and Franz Szony will be featured this season.”
What type of work attracts Michael’s eye? “I am attracted to work that
is bold. I am the only gallery to represent Karen and Tony Barone. I am
attracted to work that has depth. Look at the work of Eduardo Carriazo and
Alex Kolesar. I am attracted to work with a powerful message, be it political,
iconoclastic, fantastical or just very whimsical. The artists at Archangel
make quite a statement. I am always attracted to work that can stand on its
own. That statement applies to all the artists’ work that is represented by
Archangel Gallery.”
With any gallery, success depends on the art. “This mix of artists is
important for all. It cements our dedication to supporting artist in this area.
It shows we are not static – art can be found everywhere. Art is a collective
endeavor. Great Art will always be found at Archangel,” continued Michael.
Michael even has art planned for his wedding to fiancé, Michael Thorpe.
“We will have a canvas for all our guests to paint on”. With the creativity that
surrounds Michael Fiacco, that canvas will be something to behold.
Owner, Michael Fiacco
and Oliver

day in Kindergarten; maybe I need a lunch
pail.”
“I’m so excited for you!” she says laughing.
We pack into her ancient Honda Accord and arrive in no time. She drops
me off and I find my way to the front door. I arrive at the front desk and wait
for my counselor to escort me to my first class. I find a seat and hear a lot
of clicking on the floor by white canes as students greet one another in the
hallway.
Nancy, my counselor arrives. “Hello, Michael. Are you ready for your computer
class?”
“Very ready!’ I say, springing up from my seat.
We’ve assigned a mobility and orientation instructor who will help you learn
your way around the campus. She will also help you get oriented to your
new neighborhood.”
“Excellent!” I say, “I’m anxious to take a walk and explore the area.”
I hold on to her right elbow and follow her through this new and unfamiliar
territory. We pass students as they find their way to class.
We arrive at my computer classroom. Nancy opens the door and introduces
me to the class: “Everyone, this is Michael Tapia. He’s a brand new
student here at Braille.”
“Michael, this is Anita, your computer instructor.
“Hello, Anita,” I shyly.
“Come on in, Michael!”
“You’ll have the first chair,” says Anita. She seats me at a desk with a computer,
keyboard, and monitor, guides my hands to the components, and says,
“Welcome to JAWS which stands for JOB ACCESS WITH SOUND.”
And the computer begins to speak!

the whole person
When D.A.P. opened its dental clinic, I didn’t know it was
one-of-a-kind in the county. I’ve been living with HIV for a
long time, so I was just happy to have people nearby who
really understood my oral care needs. I’ve been a D.A.P.
client since 1994, so I’d already had great experiences
with my doctor, my case manager, and my home health
team. But this dental clinic staff is remarkable —from the
smiling receptionist to my gentle dentist and everyone
else in between. Who knew you could actually LIKE
going to the dentist?!

Hello all you
photos:
JOHN HEDGES
FABULOUS people.
Pinkie’s Place
I hope you all are enjoying the beautiful Fall weather. We already had
snow up here in Idyllwild.
Be sure to catch all of the Palm Springs pride events that will be taking
place all over town. Check out the entertainers under the big top
at the festival. All under the direction of Bella da Ball.
What a fabulous Halloween night we had on on Arenas! Big turnout
lots of fabulous costumes and people. Kevin and I went as Mr and
Mrs. Jack O. Lantern.
Now for my little blurb on AIDS. Remember that National AIDS day
is coming up on December 1st. No doubt about it, AIDS causes a lot
of uncertainty , stress, and worry. But so does the stock market. So
do many things. No matter what we’re worrying about, the issue is
the same: we want control; we want to do things to go our way. And
if they don’t go our way, we become afraid, stressed, and frustrated.
There is an alternative to worry and fear: acceptance and faith. We
accept that we aren’t in control. We don’t know what is going to happen.
We have faith that no matter what, we are protected and cared
for by a power greater than ourselves. So, we aren’t afraid. Instead
of trying to control everything we surrender. We take a leap of faith!
Now go out and have the most AMAZING day!

THE DESERT ROSE PLAYHOUSE TO PRESENT
“THE MOST FABULOUS STORY
EVER TOLD”
Rancho Mirage, CA - The Desert Rose Playhouse, the Valley’s live
stage company serving the LGBT community will present Paul Rudnick’s
comedy The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told. The production will open
November 15, 2013 for a five-week run closing on December 22, 2013.
Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM and Sundays at 2 PM.
The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told is the Paul Rudnick’s re-imagination
of the Old Testament – from a gay point of view. Adam & Steve (played
by Ryan Dominguez and Tim McGivney) and Jane & Mabel (played by

women. Adam’s curiosity causes them to be banished from the Garden of
Eden, so they decide to invent civilization and start by having brunch.
The foursome befriend the animals on Noah’s Ark (including a very horny
rhino played by Jeremy Johnson), are enslaved by a Fabulous Egyptian
Pharaoh (played by Mark Demry) and his Amazonian guards (played by
Toni Molano and Phylicia Mason), and meet up again at The Nativity in
Bethlehem.
Act Two brings us to present day New York City on Christmas Eve where
one of the lesbians has a miracle baby. All this is overseen by the Stage
Manager (Terry Huber) who may well be God. The play is an affectionate
and very funny re-visit to classic Bible stories that looks at love and
faith and the The Desert Rose Playhouse is a project of Desert Rose
Productions, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit public benefit corporation.
The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told continues Desert Rose Productions’
mission to produce and present literate, relevant and entertaining plays
and musicals to LGBT and Gay-Friendly theatregoers in the Coachella
Valley.

Palm Springs for four years with their energetic, desert-casual atmosphere
and great American modern food at reasonable prices. Now they
Gino LaMont
DOUBLE THE FUN with their newly reopened and revitalized Purple Room
restaurant and show Los lounge, Angeles which is located at the Club Trinidad Resort
in Palm Springs.
Austin fits many categories: sultry diva, powerful vocalist,
producer, lyricist, stunning beauty, international performer.
Yet her music defies categorization and crosses all
boundaries. She has been fronting bands, among them
Snap, and honing her vocal skills since she was in her
early teens.
Several years ago her want for vocal success brought
her to Los Angeles, looking for a recording contract. She
started out performing in bars and clubs then soon began
gaining session work as a background vocalist.
Her travels led her to Penny Ford, the former lead singer of
Snap, who was working on a solo project. She sensed Thea’s
talent and introduced her to the Snap organization. Thea was
whisked to Germany to begin work on Snap’s album, ‘The
Madman’s Return’ together with the rapper, Turbo B. She not
only sang, but co-authored many of the cuts.
As the lead singer of Snap she took the world by storm.
The first single, “Colour of Love” soared into the Top Ten
across Europe and reestablished Snap as a force with
which to be reckoned. The second single, “Rhythm Is A
Dancer”, was even more successful, taking a firm grasp on
the number one position on numerous Billboard charts.
To kick off the fun of the new TRIO Season5, they invite you to celebrate with
a special guest appearance by diva THEA AUSTIN featuring her hits “I got the
Kat Kramer
Power” and “Rhythm is a Dancer”.

After Michael Jackson witnessed Thea work the stage, it
came as no surprise that he asked her to be his opening
act for the Dangerous Tour and HBO Special, where she
played to more than 70,000 fans nightly.

Thea also had her huge international dance hit song “I
Can’t Get Enough” under the name of SOULSEARCHER.
The song had massive crossover appeal from dance
clubs to radio as it slammed in at #8 on the UK National
Pop Charts and topped the US Dance Charts as well. Her
follow-up single “Do It To Me Again”, which Thea co-wrote,
went to #1 on the UK Club Charts and was a Top 20 hit
on the UK Pop Charts. It should come as no surprise that
Thea continued her winning streak, this time under the
name PUSAKA, when she co-wrote the massive dance
hit “You’re The Worse Thing for Me (I’m Addicted)” with her
friends, Chris Cox and DJ Irene.
LIVE Magazine caught up with Thea and she took some
time to answers some questions for our exclusive story.
LIVE: When did you first realize that ‘music’ was
going to be your way of life?
THEA: I realized that music was going to be my way
in life when I was four years old. My eldest sister,
Vontelle, is a soul singer and had it goin on as a
young girl with a beautiful voice. She introduced me
to endless Soul legends like Aretha Franklin, Minnie
Ripperton, Chaka Khan and so ~~~ many others!
She sang everyday, just as I do now! Music is not just
what I do, but music is truly the essence of my soul.
LIVE: What where some of your earliest ‘gigs’ like?
THEA: My earliest gigs were swee~~~t, fun, scary
and crazy! I was a kid, so gigs were often times
risky. I was always chaperoned by family, and most
often hiding out in an office, waiting for clearance to
step to the stage. When the coast was clear of cops
& tattle tellers, I’d shyly roll out of the office and hit
‘em up with Aretha, Chaka, Michael Jackson & so
on. I’d eventually shake off my shyness and blast off
on the mic for 4 or 5 songs, then run back and hide
out in the office ‘til the next set. Exciting, to say the
least. Since I was eight years old, I’ve been singing
with a variety of bands in a variety of places. The
gigs were often amazing and other times hard core
& aweful! Life... :-^)
LIVE: We are impressed with your enourmous
career! Are there any particular songs which
stand out to you?
THEA: Thank you, so much. :^) I’ve been, truly,
blessed to write and sing songs like “Rhythm Is
A Dancer”, “The Color Of Love”, “See The Light” &
“I’m Addicted”. These particular songs stand out
because they landed in Top 20 charts, which then
sparked my career to travel worldwide and continue
to do what I love to do ~ SING!!! :^)
LIVE: How did you become the lead singer of
SNAP! ? And tell us a little about SNAP!.
THEA: I became the lead singer of SNAP! as a
result of meeting soul singer, Penny Ford, who was
the first singer for SNAP! She heard some songs
I had written and sung & recommended me to the
producers. We later flew to Frankfurt, Germany and
recorded at Logic Records in Offenbach, Germany.
It was a very exciting, interesting & challenging
experience for me, as I had never written to high
energy electronic music before. I was so~~~
nervous! We wrote a couple of songs together, then
Penny flew back to the states. I stayed in Germany,
still energized but scared and prayerful for a song
that people could really feel. Then, boom...
“Rhythm Is A Dancer” popped into my soul!
The rest is number one history, thank God!
Turbo B. (the rapper for SNAP!) organized a
band, rehearsals and a world tour & invited me
to join him. We had a blast, and some bombs,
too! Worldwide touring is hard but definitely
fun & cra~~~zy! My experience with SNAP!
changed my life, completely, and for the greater
good that I can share with others. I will always
be grateful for that opportunity. SNAP! was a
miraculous gift for me.
LIVE: You are an amazing writer. It seems
like you are really telling a story and getting
it across very well. Your words ‘hit home’.
What is your favorite song you have written
and why?
THEA: Thanx, again! Love the love you’’re
shining on me! Way to make a girl feel good
inside. :^) I do sing and write from my life
experiences in the hope that the song will tell
a story or bring some passion that people can
connect with. My favorite song that I’ve written
will always be “Rhythm Is A Dancer” because
it was born out of my spirit of prayer to God to
bless me with a song that people could really
feel. This unique title and melodic verse was
birthed purely out of my soul, and along with
the amazing music from the producers and
their helpful musicians, “Rhythm Is A Dancer”
resonates around the world and touches
the hearts of millions & millions of people. It
humbles and amazes me, time & time again. I
hear so~~~ many awesome stories from people
from all nations regarding this song. I was in
South Africa and was told by so many people that
this song represents freedom for them. It was one
of the first Pop songs allowed to be played in their
country, as they celebrated the end of Apartheid
with “Rhythm Is A Dancer”. Amazing! All time
favorite song for me, not just because I wrote my
part but because of how it has touched so~~~
many lives in so ~~~ many different ways! It’s
humbling and rewarding.
LIVE: We are excited that you will be
performing at TRIO’s Anniversary. We have
played your music this week and that kept us
in such a fun place! Thank you Thea!
THEA: Way to make a soul singer smile! I’m
grateful and happy for your support & opportunity
to entertain you. Thanx for a cool interview.
I’m energized and ready to bring some more
excitement to TRIO. Happy anniversary, TRIO!
Peace, love and soul power!
When Thea is not singing, she is actively involved with charity
work, which is why on Thursday, September 28, 2000, the City
of West Hollywood proclaimed it “Thea Austin Day”, for all of
her work in the fight against AIDS.
Whether she’s playing an intimate club or co-headlining Prince
Charles’ Prince’s Trust’s “Party in the Park” with Culture Club
and BoyZone to over 170,000 people, Thea always brings an
unforgettable energy to the stage that puts her in a class all her own.

The 50th Anniversary and Celebration of Stanley Kramer’s Film,
“It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”
Mickey Rooney, Karen Sharpe Kramer and Katharine “Kat” Kramer
Exclusive LIVE Magazine photos
by Peter Brandt
On the evening of Sunday,
October 27, 2013 in the
bustling city of Hollywood,
amid the ambient sounds
of distant fire engines and
planes flying overhead, four
1960s classic police cars made
their dramatic entrance onto
Sunset Boulevard as stunned
pedestrians and gawking
motorists passing by witnessed
the arrivals of original cast
members of Stanley Kramer’s
madcap epic comic caper
film, “It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad,
Mad World,” including Mickey
Rooney, Barrie Chase and
Marvin Kaplan, who were
returning to the Cinerama Dome for the 50th Anniversary Screening and
Celebration of the movie which received its World Premiere there on
November 7, 1963. Intended as an homage to the penultimate scene of
the movie, in close tow behind the cast members in another vintage police
car were Stanley Kramer’s wife and daughter, Karen Sharpe Kramer and
Katharine “Kat” Kramer, who were armed with memorabilia from the film,
including the original hubcap from Jimmy Durante’s character’s car in the
movie, the original program and photos from the World Premiere of the film.
Karen Sharpe Kramer, the widow of the late Stanley Kramer’s wife, and
Tait Forman, Marketing Coordinator for The Decurion Corporation, which
currently owns the Cinerama Dome, and also the great-grandson of William
R. Forman, who served as President of the Pacific Theatres Corporation 50
years ago, were on hand to receive accolades from The City of Los Angeles in
observance of the historic occasion.
Kimberly Rodriguez, Central Area Representative of the External Affairs
Department attended the event on behalf of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti
to present certificates of congratulations proclaiming October 27, 2013 as
“It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World Day in Los Angeles.” Steven Whiddon,
Hollywood Field Deputy for Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell of District 13
presented certificates of congratulations to both the Kramer and Forman
families, and Councilmember Tom LaBonge of District 4 stopped by to offer
best wishes to all.
Actor and comedian, Jeff Garlin, star of the current television show, “The
Goldbergs,” served as Moderator of a Q&A with the original cast members of
the film in attendance and Karen Sharpe Kramer. A special new permanent
exhibit in the lobby of the Cinerama Dome was unveiled, commemorating
the building of the venue 50-years ago and the first film presented there,
Stanley Kramer’s “It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.” Actress Barrie Chase
also brought along to the event her Manuel Pertegaz designer ball gown and
I. Magnis coat which she wore to World Premiere of “It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad,
Mad World” at the Pacific’s Cinerama Theatre on November 7, 1963.
Also in attendance at the event were: Lisa Hackett, the daughter of the late
Buddy Hackett, who starred in the film; Barry Maiten, owner of the four
classic police cars he provided for the VIP arrivals; Karen Stetler, Producer
for The Criterion Collection, which will soon be releasing a new 50th
Anniversary DVD and BluRay version of Stanley Kramer’s film, “It’s A Mad,
Mad, Mad, Mad World;” and Mad World fans, who provided some never
been seen before footage of the original World Premiere 50 years ago.
Also in attendance were four of the original dummies for the characters in
the movie played by actors Mickey Rooney, Sid Caesar, Jonathan Winters and
Peter Falk. The dummies were on loan for the day, courtesy of Donelle
Dadigan and Hollywood Museum. Artist Dave Woodman, who created
the 50th Anniversary logo for the film, and filmmaker Gary Takasian, also
attended. Original movie cast members, including Stan Freberg and Sid
Caesar, who were unable to be in attendance at the event, sent along the
following comments:
A Note From Stan Freberg (Deputy Sheriff):
“Stanley Kramer was my friend. He was a sweet man. He didn’t have a
mean bone in his body. I was very proud that he selected me to create all
the advertising for his wonderful film ‘It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.’
“When I remember my work on the film, a couple of things come to mind.
During the shooting of one of the commercials, I had the entire cast together
on the set. After numerous takes, Buddy Hackett suddenly dropped his
pants, ruining the shot. I said to Buddy, ‘You ruined the take.’ Buddy said:
‘It doesn’t matter.’ I said, ‘Of course it does. It’s a master shot, so we have
to do the whole things over.’ Kramer was standing next to me and said, ‘If
you killed Hackett now, there wouldn’t be a jury in the world who would
convict you.’
“Another afternoon, Kramer asked me ‘What size shirt do you wear?’ I said,
‘Seventeen, thirty-five but why do you ask?’ He said, ‘I’m putting you in the
film.’ He then cast me as a Sheriff’s Deputy sitting next to Andy Devine. In
the first cut of the film he gave me actual lines, but Universal said, ‘Nobody
will sit still for a four hour movie.’ Kramer then was forced to cut my lines.
My wife Hunter said, ‘To have Stan Freberg not say a word would be like

Born on July 22, 1992, in Grand Prairie, Texas, Selena Gomez
got her start in show business with a two-year run on the
kids' show Barney and Friends. After a few bit parts in movies,
Gomez guest-starred on Disney Channel's The Suite Life of
Zack and Cody and Hannah Montana. In 2007, she was cast in
the lead on Wizards of Waverly Place and in 2009 released a
music album.
Early Life and Acting Career
Selena Marie Gomez was born in Grand Prairie, Texas, on July
22, 1992, to Amanda Cornett and Ricardo Gomez. Her mother,
commonly known as Mandy, gave birth to Gomez at the age of
16.
Selena began her career in show business in 2001 when she
performed on the popular children's show Barney & Friends, as
Gianna. Gomez was dropped from the series after two years
in 2003. Over the next two years, Gomez auditioned for shows
without much success. She landed a small role in the movie
Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over in 2003 and a bit part as Julie on
Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire in 2005. She also got a part
as Emily Grace Garcia in the television show Brain Zapped in
2006, and even recorded a song for the show.
In 2006, Selena Gomez got her first major role when she guest
starred as Gwen in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody on the
Disney Channel. Also on the Disney Channel, Gomez played
the role as the evil Mikayla in Hannah Montana.
Selena Gomez landed her first starring role when the Disney
Channel cast her as Alex Russo in the series Wizards of Waverly
Place in 2007. The series has become a popular fixture
on the channel.

San Diego’s Favorite Holiday Tradition Returns to the Balboa
Theatre
SAN DIEGO, Oct. 17, 2013 – The award-winning San Diego
Gay Men’s Chorus (SDGMC) is back with its celebrated annual
holiday show on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec.
15 at 3 p.m. This year’s show, The Nutcracker (Men in Tights!),
takes place at the festive Balboa Theatre in downtown San
Diego.
“Our family-friendly show promises the whimsical magic of
traditional holiday songs together with the fun and frolic people
have come to love and expect from our chorus,” said SDGMC
Artistic Director Gary Holt. “No one does the holidays like 130
gay men! There’s singing and dancing, naughty and nice, and,
yes, actual men in tights!”
Among the show’s many holiday favorites are enchanting and
unique arrangements of “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” “Silver
Bells,” ”What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve” and “Jingle Bells.”
There will also be a hilarious sendup of traditional carols from
around the world including a brand new “San Diego Carol”
that chronicles the unique holiday goings-on at City Hall. The
highlight of the evening will be a jubilant rendition of The
Nutcracker Suite with all its fantasy characters brought to life from
sugar plum fairies to toy soldiers to dancing mice.
Tickets are available by calling (877) 296-SONG or at www.
sdgmc.org beginning Oct. 21. Tickets start at $27 and range
to $70 for preferred VIP seating. A $3 discount is available for
seniors, students, active-duty military and groups of 10 or more.
The Balboa Theatre is located at 868 Fourth Avenue adjacent to
the Horton Plaza shopping center in San Diego.
SDGMC has entertained San Diego audiences for nearly 30
years. With more than 150 members, it is one of the largest
choruses of its type in the world. The group’s official mission
is to create a positive musical experience through exciting
performances that engage audiences, build community support
and provide a dynamic force for social change.
