Message from the Director 

Greetings, 

Once again school is out and summer is here. Even though the children 

are taking a much needed break, our mission to provide quality Christian 

education through your gifts continue. Your support is very much needed 

and more so appreciated. 

I know it is easy to think that your gift will not make a difference unless you 

have a large amount to send. This is not true at all. We welcome donations 

of any size and every gift will make a difference for our children at TLS. 

August will bring the first day of school soon and with your help we will be 

ready. 

There is great news regarding Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Since 

the beginning of the new Choice Dollars program last summer we have 

received over $10,000.00 from Thrivent members. See page 2 for instructions 

where to go and how easy it is to direct your Choice Dollars each 

year by choosing “recurring direction” when you sign up. 

Does your employer offer matching gifts? Usually it is just a matter of completing 

a short form, sending it to the TLS Foundation, Inc. office at 701 SW 

Roosevelt, 66606 for my signature. I will submit the form to your employer 

and soon the matching gifts arrive. Please ask your employer for non-profit 

benefits available to you. 

Team W with WIBW has also matched our radio advertising spots! You will 

hear the “Expect the Blessed” commercials 6-7 days each week for just a 

few dollars more then the 3 -4 days last year. We would like to offer you the 

opportunity to be a sponsor. Your business along with proud grandparents, 

parents, alumni, etc. can be a sponsor. These ads also my be in memory or 

in honor of someone special to you. See page 12 for details.

Scholarship 

Endowment Fund 

The Pralle Memorial Scholarship was established 

by Mr. and Mrs. Gery and Marilyn Pralle in honor of 

both their parents, Helen (deceased) and Albert Mueller 

(100 years old), Lydia and G. F. Pralle (both deceased), 

who made sure that their children had the 

opportunity for Parochial education. Gery and Marilyn 

Pralle both became Lutheran teachers and administrators 

and could see the benefits of quality Christian 

education. Their children and grand children also had 

and have that privilege. This scholarship serves to 

help other young people to be given the chance to 

experience the life changing benefits of a Lutheran 

education.

wife Mrs. Betty Jean Goetz (a former teacher at Topeka

graduated from TLS in 1988. They did this in thanksgiving 

to God for the fine education she received there 

and because the School was such an important part 

of her young life.

Dear Topeka Lutheran School Supporters, 

I am currently beginning my third year as principal of Topeka Lutheran School. Since coming to 

TLS, I have witnessed many inspiring moments that you helped create. I would like you know 

that our 20% enrollment increase over the past two years is due to the support you provide to our 

school. 

Your financial gifts to the Grant in Aid Fund have made it possible for many students who otherwise 

couldn’t afford tuition to obtain an education where they have the opportunity to hear the Word of 

God daily. For example, in a meeting with a family who was interested in sending their children to 

TLS, the young girl asked me, “Let me get this straight. You guys pray in the morning, at lunch, 

AND before you go home?” I replied, “Yes, we do.” Her reply was, “What if I don’t know how to 

pray?” I said, “It’s OK. Let me teach you.” 

We ended our meeting with prayer, and the family was able to enroll only with the assistance of 

the Grant in Aid Fund. I am pleased to report that when school first began this year, that young 

girl eagerly said, “I can’t wait to go to my first religion class!” I was blessed to watch her earnestly 

learn about Jesus and study the Bible daily. By May, that young girl was leading the prayers her 

class was saying before they went home for the day. Your financial gifts allowed her to attend TLS 

where she can learn about Jesus and develop her faith. 

Your financial gifts to the Grow Our School campaign and Technology Fund have made it possible 

for our students to learn in an environment that is safe and inviting with resources that will help 

our students become ready to meet the demands of our ever increasing technology dependent 

society. I can’t begin to count the number of comments I hear from people visiting TLS about the 

way the building looks. One of the comments made by a family who was visiting our school for the 

first time stands out. After the tour of the school, the father said, “This is how an elementary school 

should look. It should look friendly, clean, and kid friendly.” Your support has allowed us to remodel 

TLS to look “the way an elementary school should look.” Additionally, because of your support the 

students at TLS have the opportunity to learn with resources such as a mobile computer lab with 

25 notebook computers, wireless Internet, a Promethean Smart Board, and a computer classroom 

with brand new computers with the latest software. 

Your financial gifts to fund advertising have increased the number of phone calls we receive from 

families interested in learning more about TLS. We are averaging at least one to two school tours 

or telephone inquiries per week. I love talking to families about the benefits of a Christian based 

education at TLS and having the opportunity to do it so often is exciting. 

I thank God daily for you and the fact that you give so freely to TLS. I am blessed to have the 

opportunity to do the work you have entrusted me to do. Thank you for your prayers and continued 

financial support of TLS. You are changing lives.
